Good effort by Rangers last night, did everything but score, they seem to be going all out in the Europa (cue @davek) whilst Celtic seem to be saving themselves for domestic success, it'll be interesting to see how things pan out.
Rangers played well last night and definitely deserved to win. They looked very assured and got the ball quickly out wide. Something is lacking - perhaps a tough dude in the middle of it all. Also the distribution from set pieces is not great. Bit like Everton at times!

This is the Steven Gerrard Show. It's a showcase for what he can do with a team against well known continental opponents. He'd rather get through to the last 32 of the EL than win the Scottish title. He'd take the latter, of course, but in terms of bumping his status it's worth less to Steven Gerrard PLC. He'll be targetting a Scottish League Cup of FA cup win and taking Rangers out of the EL group stages - but peddling water in the more gruelling SPL. That will be his strategy.

Surely Rangers fans are aware of this? They haven't been paying attention to the character of the man in the dugout if they aren't.

The title will be won by Celtic with Hearts and Aberdeen in 2nd and 3rd spots.

...I’d imagine most young managers taking the Rangers job will hope it’s a stepping stone and I expect Rangers fans are fully aware of that.

Nice one Dave I knew you wouldn't let me down;)

Not to the extent that they put all effort into one competition at the expense of another, which is what he's blatantly doing there.

Rangers fans are more desperate to see the ending of the propsect of a never-been-done 10-in-a-row than beatiing level 2 Euro clubs to get out of their EL group.

It'll be 8-in-a-row for Celtic this season, and too close to comfort for them.

Every other Rangers manager would have gotten that. Stevie Me isn't arsed though. It's all about him...and always has been.

..i’m not sure that’s the case, I think it might be more that they have an opportunity to progress in that competition. If they ignore the league and finish mid-table it won’t look good. I think you’re looking into it a bit too aggressively.

The EL is a quagmire that any club (especially a Scottish one with no great resources, unlike some PL clubs who at least have some strength in depth) should avoid. They're already off the pace and any other manager would have been staring down the barrel right now with Rangers where they are.

..well, they beat Hearts comfortably a few weeks ago. He’ll be more of a hero if he finishes above Celtic.

..I agree but I think it will be his key objective. I’m a little ITK at Rangers and will be going up there soon so i’ll try and gauge what’s going on.
Stevie Me is Stevie Me's key objective.

Just a matter of time before the Rangers fans realise that.

..I have no doubt about that but I was told a long time ago that all managers are on an ego trip. I’m not a Gerrard fan in the least, but he won’t be alone in having his own agenda. I’m sure Rangers fans know he’s only using them as a stepping stone.

He'll only boost his managerial profile if he does a good job and rangers fans are happy with that

He’s definitely moved them on from the last couple of managers but I think even our last couple of failures could have done that , that was an absolutely minimum.

I watched the Hamilton game in the pub before our last game with rest interest because I had a few bob on it but I have to say I wasn’t particularly impressed. That’s what I mean really I struggle to put some of the performances together , some of the SPFL stuff has been a bit average .
Your 100% right on that

Good call Dave, this was their best chance of a trophy IMO and they've blown it by Stevie G chasing an impossible dream in the Europa.
