..yep, does seem strange. We are in a position where a wrong decision could relegate us. I know some on here don’t accept that realisation but we are a very ordinary team.

I notice this bloke was shortlisted to be an astronaut at one stage so he’s clearly clever but I don’t know how he’d cope with a relegation battle (especially as he apparently left a previous job because of the pressure).

Ill be honest if he was in the club as sporting director/DoF I would be entirely comfortable with that, 100%... I would actually trust him to do a better job then Walsh as he is very smart at that role.

As a manager though, it screams Felix Magath at Fulham... and probably a nail in the coffin.

I am also worried that if the board who apparently interviewed him before Martinez, would deem him worthy enough now after knocking him back before.

Smacks of desperation.... if true.

How many pages before this one falls through?? Il go with 15 pages before we move onto the next target

Maybe his long term ideas and realistic assessment of what was needed at the time wasn't "I will get you into the champions league on a shoestring budget" which is what keneright wanted to hear:?

Speculated to @Eggs just now, that would it be far fetched to think he could arrive as manager with the plan to move him upstairs as a true dof at seasons end at which point we bring in a long term manager under him?

Or is that far too much of a sensible strategy for this board?

Thats far too sensible and the board does not have that type of strategy or long term thinking in their heads...

Also am not so sure after what happened to hi at Schalke he would want the day to day role mate... Still poor from the board knock him back once and then go back in for him.

I am saying its just media rehashing old names and desperately searching for something to put out.

Different owner now though, he did after shalke manage Leipzig for one season before moving back full time to the dof role, and did very well managing them too, which is where the idea of a similar path to that role here occurred to me.

The board certainly would have that thinking. The hope is maybe moshiri May have that thought...

This is the worry, if he wasn’t good enough then, why is he now?

There's no way he's leaving Leipzig. He's got pretty much everything over there, he has terrific infrastructure, a whole lotta money, Leipzig is establishing itself as the number 2 in German football and he's the one who's responsible for most of it. He formed that squad. Why would he walk away from this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to coach a struggling Premier League club which might be a Grand Old Team for us to support but basically unknown and low-rated team here in Germany? You might think the RS receive preferential treatment in English media? You should see how they're glorified in Germany as the big working class family club, even more so since Kloppo moved there (and he always pointed to how his decision was made because of the similarities between Dortmund and the RS which makes my gut turn). Everton isn't covered in Germany at all so I don't see how it would be an attractive destination for Ragnick or Tuchel as well at the moment. They don't remember the Holy Trinity or the 85 team. We should come to terms with the state of our beloved club and realize that it's reputation hasn't been where it was at for a long time now.
