Such a shame to see all these strikes.

If the government offered even 8-9% (still a pay cut in reality) most of the unions would probably take the offer. Their offers of 3-5% are shocking.

TBF if they announced the end of "privatization" on the railway, which was implied in the 2019 Tory manifesto, and offered 3-5% all of the unions would take it.

The irony being that I suspect many of those going out on strike would like the government to run "more" things, even though they're clearly of the opinion that they're a dreadful employer that exploits them royally.
I assume that would be the next government. Though I feel they'll become the enemy very quickly after they get into power...

Not just a British problem. France are, unsurprisingly, on strike, so my train back from Brussels tomorrow has been canned. I can't remember now if the French rail companies are supposed to be great and their ownership of ours is bad or what.

Current widespread strikes are part of the on-going protests against the Macron pension reform proposals.
Of course the Eurostar trains and crews may have their own disputes.

People strike for different reasons, political corrupt will always want to convolute and then bring it down a simple black and white issue about pay, teachers withdrew their labor under last labour government was to do with Sats. The social work team I'm employed in has not once in 10years i have been employed had its full compliment of staff this is echoed up and down the country, cant blame COVID cant blame Brexit, its the employment market forces, simply there are far better paid jobs with better working conditions in factory's and supermarkets.
