Fifth arrest after police 'recognise man' in Southport riot video
Police made the arrest after officers were called to reports of a domestic incident in Southport
Merseyside Police confirmed this evening that a 39-year-old man from Southport is the fifth person to be arrested in connection with the violent disorder. The arrest came after officers were called to a report of a domestic incident in Southport today (Wednesday), where it was reported a man had made threats to a family member
Officers attended and the suspect was taken to hospital for treatment for a head injury. Police said officers recognised the man from footage of the disorder in Southport on Tuesday, where he is alleged to have thrown rocks at officers and struck a police van, and where it is believed the head injury was sustained.
The suspect was reported to have racially abused a fellow patient while at the hospital, police said. The 39-year-old man from Southport was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, threats to kill and a racially aggravated public order offence.
What a throughly horrible piece of work. Lost his head, his bollocks, probably his job if he has one, his dignity, his wife will probably divorce him, his home and become a national laughing stock, well done "brickman"
Had a similar issue with some family members. Depressing to see people I know are good people at heart getting swept up by the hysteria.Honestly been such a downbeat day seeing so many close friends agreeing, liking and sharing Tommy Robinson posts. Really makes me question my faith in humanity when people are so concerned about the governments of Muslim-majority countries and the Qu'ran yet fail to see their own hypocrisy as Christians. Any country where religion and the government have been intertwined for hundreds of years will have problems. It is as much the case with Roman Catholocism.
I am a youth worker and so many of the young people I support are Muslim I just can't begin to imagine how they must feel on a daily basis seeing their faith constantly slandered.
It all speaks of a deeply unhappy country. People looking for easy answers and blame. Prejudices and biases tickled and ramped up to something nastier.Had a similar issue with some family members. Depressing to see people I know are good people at heart getting swept up by the hysteria.

An old lecturer of mine was firmly of the opinion that nationalism is intrinsically linked to poverty and inequality. Hard times always see a rise.

It's also warm. Not to downplay anything you've said there, but have you ever seen serious disorder here when it rains? Are there many demonstrations in winter? It all speaks of a deeply unhappy country. People looking for easy answers and blame. Prejudices and biases tickled and ramped up to something nastier.

Low grade rage bottled up until the nice weather... bottle uncooked... BoomIt's also warm. Not to downplay anything you've said there, but have you ever seen serious disorder here when it rains? Are there many demonstrations in winter?
Right now, it's hot and when it's hot, people drink more, stay up later and get into trouble. To stop this disorder growing, we need it to rain!
