If all hotels are shut during the national lockdown, where are away teams staying the night before a game?

A number of hotels have been allowed to stay open throughout. Mostly to get the homeless off the streets, people self-isolating and key workers needing somewhere to stay.

its gotta stop surely, cant be having repeats of last night and thats whats gunna happen

id miss it i wont lie, but theres a bigger picture

We are probably the worst in the entire developed world at the moment. You're definitely right there. Mostly due to over 40 years of Thatcherism and 11 years of austerity have run down the capacity of the state to do very much.
But much of Europe isn't doing that well either. France, Spain and Germany have hardly covered themselves in glory. They don't even have Tory blurts in charge as an excuse.
Compare to the likes of Vietnam who shut their borders almost straight away, massive state-run test & trace and large government quarantine centres for those showing symptoms. Almost no deaths and economy growing. Not bad for a poor little communist country.

I agree with you, I do.

I just mean covid match cancellations are only happening in England at the minute. Where that leads us I don’t know, but I would be amazed if the other major leagues come to a stop.

I think you're right. This is much worse than last time. Much higher deaths daily and we haven't even peaked yet.
Last season managed to get pushed through just through sheer pigheadedness of those in charge and the RS.
But this has been at the expense of this season and all that follow it. There is no wriggle room and something will have to give. It's quite possible that the UEFA competitions will be knocked on the head and the European Championships and Olympics will also go.

Probably you're right. I think a lot depends on how quickly the vaccine can be rolled out. The Tories are already bungling it in this country. And the state of much of the NHS and care sector is now at war zone level.
But there is almost no wriggle room for any suspensions now without some major domestic or international competitions being knocked on the head.

This is going really well.

They get paid hundreds of thousands of pounds every week haven't they earned a Christmas off with all their friends and fam? :pint2:

might be missing the point here but are you saying that the players are acting irresponsibly which is what is causing the recent surge?

Of course.

whilst you obviously do have a point about certain players breaking lockdown or at least being dumb enough to get caught that is really just a very small percentage of where this outbreak is coming from.

it’s just not possible for an entire football club to exist in a bubble for 9 months. By that I don’t mean just the players but you’re asking them to involve their wives and girlfriends and children in that too. Id assume before the lockdown came in the Players children were going to school or the wives were seeing their mum and dad or doing the weekly food shop then the bubble has just been burst. Those supposed bubbles have never been secure from the start and unless you’re gonna take all the players and staff and put them in to a secured hotel it necer

it’s probably ok for the top premier league players to keep a bubble but let’s say you’re a reserve team player at somewhere like Burnley or even lower down the pyramid, are you really going to form this bubble for that amount of time and not break it or allow a member of your household to break it? It’s completely impracticable and quite frankly ridiculous that there’s this whole charade that these bubbles even exist.

like I said above the players children would have been going to school up until Christmas and there’s a very big possibility that they would have been bringing it home as an Asymptomatic, a quick kiss goodnight or goodbye in the morning to the child before training and before you know that player has spread the virus unknowingly to 5 other players. This new strain is so much more contagious than the last one which was already pretty adept at spreading, it should come as no surprise to anyone that the numbers are rising with each round of testing or that they will likely continue to do so.

Yeh it's just we've seen similar numbers every week but then a big leap in the weeks around Christmas/New Year where we've seen footballers on social media flaunting rules and bubbles. Have to remember though PL is multicultural and lots of the players will have very large families that all spend holidays together as is cultural tradition.
