Which decade and a bit was that ? He was at the top of his game 84-89 and his performance levels fell away afterwards.

I started following at the '89 cup final and i still have in my memory that he was immense between '89 to '95, tailing off a bit during the end of Royle's era and by then past his peak.

84-89 is your opinion. Good for you.

But let's go with your model and that he was only at the top of his game for 5 years ( lol ). In those 5 years he was the best keeper in the world and so his ratings per game were extremely high I'd imagine.

Honestly he was flapping at crosses and making half-hearted saves in 1991. However this may have been a mental thing as it is part of Everton history that he was extremely dissatisfied at the way things were at the club. But he certainly wasn't the same player then as he was in the 80s.

From the archives I've seen and from what I've heard and read '84-'89 was absolute peak for Big Nev and it's this era which has him recognised as one of the best in the world. In my view '89-'95 was not far off...so in that respect I agree it's a 10-year run of superlative form.

He's bowled that long and straight and he's sweeped that straight down the middle for an easy four.

Just accept that Southall has a high average rating from hundreds of games, than Kanchelskis did from his two thirds of a season.

Yes they were but the OP was looking for the most consistent performer over his whole Everton career, hence the rider.
