Potential ban on betting companies on shirts

I’m not sure I agree with all this. If you have an addictive personality you can get drawn into stuff in any walk of life. The fact that they advertise in Football, is it going to draw you in even more? Anymore than say, walking down the High St and seeing the adds on Billboards? The National Lottery is ok to promote on Saturday prime time TV, the draw is/was even incorporated into a family game show. Full page adds for it in the media, big headlines when there’s a massive jackpot to get us all into a rollover frenzy to spend more money on a 20000000-1 shot. Shall we stop advertising that too, as people get addicted to that but that’s ok though as the proceeds go to good causes, mostly the Canadian Government! Shall we close all the boozers down whilst we’re at it and stop serving alcohol at football grounds? I like a bet, but because Sportspesa is on our shirts it’s not going to make me gamble more. In the same way I still haven’t tasted Chang beer to this day. It’s an advert, they are sponsors. We all have minds of our own.

Ive been reading some horror stories about what gambling does to people. It frightens me and that's why I won't do it, I strongly believe it shouldn't be advertised.

It's a serious stain on society, I'm sure it can be fun to people in moderation but it shouldn't be promoted, and needs serious regulation.

I can't believe the women who owns bet365 got an honour, you can tell just by looking at her that she's a serial sociopath.

Its been here for decades, why now? Fits right in with the Snowflake society we live in. Gambling comes in many forms and they want to stop promoting it within footy? They should stop promoting it during prime time Saturday night tv slots (the lottery), the Grand National shouldnt be shown live and all the hoo ha surrounding it etc etc etc. But where here do they start? I know, football. But promotion will be allowed almost everywhere else. If theyre gonna do it, fine, do it, but dont just stop it at football. People can get addicted to almost anything, Sex, Drink, Drugs, Gaming, Gambling, Foods, Mobile phone, social media, coffee, shopping, exercise. Let’s rid society of all that whilst we’re at it.
They go on about gambling but it’s ok for the banks, with government backing, to start charging 40% for our bank overdrafts. Banks to throw credit cards at us and load us up with debt, store cards with ridiculous APRs etc etc etc. It’s our choice not to use them services but that ruins many people’s lives, perhaps more so than gambling. But that’s all state sponsored. Like the lottery.

Because the gambling industry was recently seriously de regulated and the result has been an unprecedented growth in both spend on gambling and the number of people reporting problems with gambling.

They're all terrible and should be dealt with. Starting with gambling would be a good start.

I'm not saying outlaw it, I'm saying regulate it. I saw how they target addicts with cash into their accounts to get back on it.

Also what's wrong with sex?

Because it's become more evident it's a social and mental issue,

Ive no doubt that theres been a growth in people reporting problems with gambling. But there’s also been an uprise in people reporting problems in pretty much every addiction there is. That’s because people are more willing to talk about these issues now. Mental health, drugs, alcohol, gaming. People like to talk these days.
Ive also no doubt that gambling (as well as alcohol, drugs, mental health) has increased because people’s debt has. Whys that? Because the banks and the government are having us all off. Start with them.
As I say, if they‘re going to ban promotion of gambling, do it. But do it properly. All or nothing. I’ll still tune in to the lottery on Saturday evenings, where it’s shown during a family quiz show, where kids are shown what winning big money can do. The lottery, whereby ticket Prices doubled and odds of winning actually increased. Horse racing is one big promotion but thats ok because it’s good for the economy and brings in millions for the Government. We can’t be having these private betting companies making money though.

I think I must be immune to advertising. I have just read an article in the guardian about how we had eitc instead of sportpesa on our shirts on Saturday. Checked some photos and sure enough there it was.

I watched the whole game and didnt even notice

I must admit, I went the other way when it all became online betting on your phone and everything

Years ago I always used to do the fixed odds coupon. Three lines, a quid each. Ten homes, four aways, and a little three home line to try to cover the bet. Small outlay but the ten homes could come to a couple of ton sometimes. If you won something half the thrill for me was walking into the bookie's and having them put actual tenners into my hand. Even if it was just 20 quid or something, you could feel your win. Now it's, if you win your account has been credited. Good, that's nice.

Does anyone else feel the magic has been lost?
