The centre of midfield is still garbage, and that's where the majority of games are won and lost.
Martinez has got the players to do a counterattack job on teams with slow defences, but I don't think they're going to trouble the European places.
Cant argue with that bit.

The window was good in many ways:

1/ left sided CB with aerial presence was added who could win games at either end of the pitch for us
2/ Lennon was an excellent addition. He gets through a lot of work in a Pienaar type way aiding his FB and joining/instigating attacks.
3/ RM brought in 4 realistic first team players for around £12M (I don't buy for a second the sudden hike in price for Mori).

But that failure to bring in something we were crying out for - and which Roberto identified as a must acquisition - puts a massive hole in the transfer window success story. It leaves us vulnerable in about 2/3rds of the type of games we can expect to play in, as teams get compact and wait to break on us as we continually hit a brick wall.

This will still be an enormous talking point by January and he'll face massive pressure to sort it out then.

It's been a sensible window.

We needed a left-sided centre back who is strong in the air and had enough years ahead of him to succeed Jagielka. Mori has just broken into the Argentinian squad and could certainly become a regular. It seems like he has an eye for goal and winning the South American version of the CL isn't to be sniffed at. Roberto is right that it's a rare combination to find and he sounds like he could be a massive asset. I'm surprised that we didn't face more competition for him really.

Cleverley is a useful utility player on a free and he could still yet flourish into an accomplished midfielder.

We know what Deulofeu is capable of. If he can put the service in for Lukaku to feed off and chip in with a few goals himself he will quickly become a vital player for us. Maybe if we'd paid £10m+ for him fewer people would be questioning our transfer dealings? I can't believe that we got him so cheaply.

We got Lennon for less than half Tottenham's asking price. It gives us options and pace down the right-hand side and, hopefully, we won't need to use players like Cleverley, Naismith, Barkley and Kone in unnatural wide positions so much in future.

Rodriguez is one for the future. It sounds like we're scouted South America pretty thoroughly, so hopefully we've unearthed a gem. Even if he helps Mori to settle in that's something.

We've tracked Henen for a long-time. Hopefully our persistence will pay off.

If Holgate is half as good as Stones he'll do very well for us.

Wenger has talked about United's purchase of Martial as an example of talent not being available in this window and clubs being forced to gamble big on untested players. I agree with him. I think that the money was available for Yarmolenko but he was possibly holding out for a move to a CL club. Once we sign a top-notch playmaker our starting XI is pretty much complete. It's no use spending the money on players that are available if they're not really what we're looking for. We might as well roll it over to the next window or the window after that until the right player comes along. We have options such as Barkley and Mirallas to cover that position in the meantime.

Who had a good window anyway? I read that United now only have 18 first-team players. Is Cech that much better than Sczcesney? Chelsea seem to have bought quite a few random players at the end of the window. Spurs still only have one striker. I don't really see how Liverpool can accommodate Benteke, Sturridge, Countinho and Firmino. City are perhaps the only team to be evidently stronger and they've thrown A LOT of money at it.

Top lad you x

Thing is mate no one this season besides for City looks very strong, United have gambled everything on a very unproven young French bloke, and still don't look particularly solid at the back either. Arsenal have all the creativity in the world yet still haven't got a dominant cm or a striker better than Giroud (and if he gets injured their screwed), Chelseas defence suddenly looks very very shaky and if Terry has declined badly they will leak goals left and right this season. RS have tried to change their style of play completely to accommodate Benteke and it's not working they will struggle to score and their defence looks shaky as ever - and likely will see them getting shut of Brenda by Christmas, Spurs despite being the better team against a tired everton side look entirely dependant on the form of Kane and if he doesn't replicate last season they will struggle badly - some would say Pochetinni will be on borrowed time with Levy's track record if they don't seriously turn their form around soon. Saints look like they have finally hit the point of selling too many key players and haven't replaced them with the same quality, Swansea will struggle due to having a smaller squad and well not actually being that good.

Not gonna mention the likes of West Ham, Newcastle and Stoke etc as frankly their never going to challenge for a top 6 place

So looking at the league this season, whilst we have holes ourselves in the squad, theirs absolutely no reason we cannot be in the mix for 4th-6th come the season end (have to predict that out of Arsenal, Chelsea and United that 2 of them will come good for 2nd and 3rd, obviously most of the teams i've mentioned also have a lot of European games coming this season - no reason on earth we can't take advantage of this.

Wait, you think our central midfield is garbage?

When you put it like that it is encouraging.

This injury jinx we have needs to end though.

When did 6'1 become "short" ?!?!

Canavaro is 5'9
Baresi is 5'9
Beckenbauer is 5'11
Terry is 6'1

Our own squad
Jagielka is 6'0
Browning is 5'11
Galloway is 6'2
Stones is 6'2

6'1 isn't short in real life or football terms.
I thought the same 6'1 is ok for a CB if he's got a good leap that's an added bonus.

I think this number 10 quote as been overused during the last transfer window. Yes, Martinez wanted to bring one in and failed to do so, but in terms of the overall squad, I feel we are strong enough. In my opinion, it was another centre back we needed more than anything. Personally, I feel the business Bobby done was decent.
Yes we did ok, to get a good play maker ( number 10) it does cost a lot of money Arteta was the closest we have had in recent years. But with the wingers and full back we have the ammo for the strikers has surely got to come from there, add Barkley and I think Kone could also play the sort of number 10 roll. Any way we are stuck with what we have not so let crack on and get behind the team.
