It's been a sensible window.

We needed a left-sided centre back who is strong in the air and had enough years ahead of him to succeed Jagielka. Mori has just broken into the Argentinian squad and could certainly become a regular. It seems like he has an eye for goal and winning the South American version of the CL isn't to be sniffed at. Roberto is right that it's a rare combination to find and he sounds like he could be a massive asset. I'm surprised that we didn't face more competition for him really.

Cleverley is a useful utility player on a free and he could still yet flourish into an accomplished midfielder.

We know what Deulofeu is capable of. If he can put the service in for Lukaku to feed off and chip in with a few goals himself he will quickly become a vital player for us. Maybe if we'd paid £10m+ for him fewer people would be questioning our transfer dealings? I can't believe that we got him so cheaply.

We got Lennon for less than half Tottenham's asking price. It gives us options and pace down the right-hand side and, hopefully, we won't need to use players like Cleverley, Naismith, Barkley and Kone in unnatural wide positions so much in future.

Rodriguez is one for the future. It sounds like we're scouted South America pretty thoroughly, so hopefully we've unearthed a gem. Even if he helps Mori to settle in that's something.

We've tracked Henen for a long-time. Hopefully our persistence will pay off.

If Holgate is half as good as Stones he'll do very well for us.

Wenger has talked about United's purchase of Martial as an example of talent not being available in this window and clubs being forced to gamble big on untested players. I agree with him. I think that the money was available for Yarmolenko but he was possibly holding out for a move to a CL club. Once we sign a top-notch playmaker our starting XI is pretty much complete. It's no use spending the money on players that are available if they're not really what we're looking for. We might as well roll it over to the next window or the window after that until the right player comes along. We have options such as Barkley and Mirallas to cover that position in the meantime.

Who had a good window anyway? I read that United now only have 18 first-team players. Is Cech that much better than Sczcesney? Chelsea seem to have bought quite a few random players at the end of the window. Spurs still only have one striker. I don't really see how Liverpool can accommodate Benteke, Sturridge, Countinho and Firmino. City are perhaps the only team to be evidently stronger and they've thrown A LOT of money at it.

Although to be fair Arsenal categorically improved their starting eleven. Not sure we did.

No?

We really needed that number 10, but one of Deulofeu/Lennon take a place in our starting eleven along with Mirallas.

When Martinez wants to play with two wingers, that is. Which is never. Eh.

People do realise it's only like 100 and something days to the next window yeah?

We'll be absolutely fine.

You know Martinez doesn't like doing business in January. Players are also more expensive in January. If we couldn't afford to stump up the cash for a number 10 now, what makes you think we'll be able to in four months?

Said this before but the absence of a negative (losing John Stones) is not a positive.

It's great that he's an Everton player this season but he already was. We had him, and now we still have him. There is no net improvement.
You're only viewing the window from one side then. Keeping our best players despite repeated interest from Champions League clubs is still a positive. The window is about players coming in and players leaving. We did a good job keeping our players which bumps it up in my eyes.

The centre of midfield is still garbage, and that's where the majority of games are won and lost.

Martinez has got the players to do a counterattack job on teams with slow defences, but I don't think they're going to trouble the European places.

Our priorities were another central defender and a no.10 to direct the team.

Half the job done. We now have a bunch of wingers but RM will only play one because we do not have two strong
midfielders, along the lines of City, as an example. And we remain without a leader in midfield.

Who were our no.10 targets? Why did we leave it so late?

I rated it a 7. I think we had a better window last year with Lukaku and Barry in but we had a bad year. Sometimes its not about how much you spend.

Cleverley - starting to understand his role and was doing really well the last couple of matches. Still not a perfect fit in the squad (I'd rather see him play Barry's position) maybe next year when we actually get better wingers.

Deloufeu - a great buy at 6m euros. Still working on his game, but he's got that talent that nobody else on the squad has.

Holgate - unproven and unknown but for 2m seems reasonable.

Rodriguez - at $1m seems a decent buy. And we do need that poacher type striker and cheaper than say a Chicharito.

Funes Mori - I think we overpaid here. How many South Americans, particularly argentine ones (still love the Straq) have worked out in the premier league? He's also the highest fee defender by quite a long way. He's also a bit short for a central defender at 6'1 though I hear he makes up for it with a great leap.

Lennon - great buy if only as a short term fix. We've got a bunch of good wingers, but we really need a world class one. He's a cheap buy and a known quantity.

He's also a bit short for a central defender at 6'1 though I hear he makes up for it with a great leap.

When did 6'1 become "short" ?!?!

Canavaro is 5'9
Baresi is 5'9
Beckenbauer is 5'11
Terry is 6'1

Our own squad
Jagielka is 6'0
Browning is 5'11
Galloway is 6'2
Stones is 6'2

6'1 isn't short in real life or football terms.

Overall I am pleasantly surprised with the transfer window. We have probably spent around 18-20 million net which is a sizeable amount of the increase revenue of around 35 million.

I worry that we have too many players in certain areas (notably attacking midfield/wide men). Lennon, Deulofeu, Mirallas, McGeady, Osman, Peinaar, Naismith is at least 2 too many for my liking. I hope next summer we can get rid of McGeady, Peinaar and possibly Osman.

We have strengthened the defence which needed to be done and kept most of our key assets. We are depending on new signings to make or break our season, but on existing players continuing to improve.

We all wanted the "number 10". I think such a player will be too costly without a major outgoing (or we'd have had to spend our entire budget on 1 player). I expect us to either have a go at getting Yarmalenko on a free/reduced fee in January. In the mean time Barkley is playing well and we may need to utilise 4-3-3 a bit more.

just out of interest if we did get that extra player in that some people think would have turned the window from rubbish to great, but we got them in June, how would people feel? It is just that I get as wrapped up in the 'christmas morning' feel of transfer deadline day as anyone, but a couple of days later and this window feels much more productive than the last one. I voted 7 just to balance out a lot of negativity but I think it is about right, maybe 8, taking into account the environment of players going for way over value and ours being placed in the shop window by the media.
Last year we got Lukaku at the last minute, all very exciting, but I am still not convinced we got value for money there. This time, a couple of players have come in for cheap but Deulofeu has the potential to be a legend. Just my gut feeling if we had got him on the last day for 20 mill then this place would be buzzing with excitement now.

not too much off topic I hope but just wondering if anyone has spotted any sign of anyone in the media beating themselves up even a little about how wrong they got nearly everything. Just one little whimper of humility from anywhere would be nice to read.

I think this number 10 quote as been overused during the last transfer window. Yes, Martinez wanted to bring one in and failed to do so, but in terms of the overall squad, I feel we are strong enough. In my opinion, it was another centre back we needed more than anything. Personally, I feel the business Bobby done was decent.
