No, because if it had, Martinez would have said it in his most recent interview to prevent fume/protests.

Not saying he didn't want one...just saying he could be a lot more selective..more of a "desired skill" than a "requirement". Thinking out loud.

I believe money was there, but we all know that we don't have an unlimited pot.

Not enough money was there, no.

The difference is you're saying we'd need £30m+ for a number 10 when we all know we could have got one for much less. Ross has been performing better in the centre of midfield as opposed to behind Lukaku.

Still distraught that we did not get rid of McGeady when Sunderland were apparently interested. Don't want to see that fat clogger in an Everton shirt ever again.

[Gets vaulted when Aido scores a brace against the RS and the reprise of the two-fingered salute to the Kop makes him an instant legend]

I'd give it an optimistic 7/10.
Mori and Rodriguez are pretty much unknown wildcards. They could come through for us but its a disappointing gamble we have to take when we couldn't get Yarmolenko.
Really happy to have Gerri back, well worth the 6m but Lennon... I dont know - we already have a bunch of wingers lining up on the bench. If we paid more than 9m I'd say it was too much. He's proven he still has got it, but he isn't amazing.
Keeping Stones and Coleman - big +'s.
Not selling McGeady - big -'s.

The signings tell me Roberto wants to put in a good challenge for all cups this year. We have decent replacements in just about every role now and should be able to cycle the squad. Good basis for a Europa/(dare I say it)Champion's League run next season.

All in all, not bad. Done much better business than some (cough, cough, ARSENAL). Let's get behind our new boys and returnees and fill them with confidence.

All wishful thinking. Would be nice if I had your optimism, however I see the board having left Martinez high and dry.

We were very close today.

At the end of last season (after the Spurs game) I would have been very happy to see Martinez leave the club - I said as much in an article on this site.

However I think he has had an exemplary transfer window despite having his hands tied by our friends in the Board. We've kept everyone we wanted to keep, brought in previously loaned players who we know add to the team and the club, and made some good additions to the squad.

Martinez has played a blinder - the jury is still out about what he does on the pitch, but there can be little doubt of his success off the pitch this summer.
yeah one person who has come out of this window well is Martinez. Was not a fan and saw him as someone who believed in a system more than the players and the club. Now, I believe he can adapt and can show the spirit we need. I'm a convert.

The worry for me is the lack of good selling. Aside from the buzz of getting lukaku etc on THAT TDD was the 6m Anichebe and 28m Fellaini. Also the 7m for Jelavic the window after. We needed to be more proactive moving players on this window too many players in same positions. The worry is Did Martinez just get lucky in that first window, i think he was in for Ba and just got offered Rom ?

I gave it a 4. For the simple reason the one key position that we desperately needed 'a number 10' was not addressed, even though our manager has been banging on about it all summer. I said earlier in the thread, due to us not getting the Ukrainian lad, I would loved us to get nolito or even better Sigurdsson to play the number 10 role. As it is we've turned down an 8m bid for Naismith to 'fulfil' this role off the bench.

Of course we could have got one for less than that. However, it would have been a waste of time and money if they weren't an improvement on what we already have.

The term 'selling club' gets on my nerves, never come across a club who didn't sell players, including Barcelona and Madrid, doesn't make any sense that terminology.

I don't think Ross has been all that good as a number ten tbh. He may have a future in centre midfield. I don't see him long term behind a striker.
He has been better and I don't think it is all his fault since he isn't helped by McCarthy and Barry never running beyond him. Hopefully with two of Deulofeu, Mirallas and Lennon to stretch teams he will have a bit more space. Ross is our No 10 now so let's be positive. He is after all the biggest positive we can take from the start of the season.

I honestly think Sigurdsson will be at Swansea until he's surplus to requirements. Think he got his fingers burned at Tottenham and realised the grass isn't always greener.
