Positives: Lukaku looked really good and getting back to his best. Joel looked relatively comfortable for the majority of the game and I feel he will only grow in confidence the longer he stays in the side. The last minute goal brought us together, I got that Everton feeling back and I think that can only help the fans and team and there should be more positivity as a whole going into the City game.

And I'm OK with that. Barry played well last night and there's an argument that his experience will be necessary. Lets hope last night was the beginning of him playing himself back to form because lets be honest Martinez has him as first name on the teamsheet.

Martinez obviously hangs his hat on these 4-2-3-1 formations but for me we don't have the right players for it. Some on here have commented that it leads to the midfield being over run, and one of the reasons for that is you need the miralles/Naisys of this world to effectively become midfielders during certain phases of play - which they aint. It is also a counter attack set up which means you let the opposition have the ball and defend your area stoically - which we can't due to our dreadful defensive organisation.

I would like to see a 5-3-2 mainly due to it allows Rom to have a strike partner which he needs, and Citeh like to probe/attack through the centre. This is basically a 3-5-2 with ball and 5-3-2 without ball with Garbutt/Seamus providing width.

Ordinarily I'd agree going in to face Aguero and co. But if Jagielka continues his form into this City game it's suicidal to play him in there too. I ask myself would Browning have done worse than Jagielka there last night, and the answer comes back a resounding no.

It's not a one off; Jagielka's head has gone. He's not out there on the pitch. And when he does wake up to take part it's merely to make another mistake.

Better the devil we know. I'd feel it's a bigger gamble sticking some young lad on against Manchester City, could be overawed by the occasion. That being said, if Martinez isn't planning on getting a new centre-half any time soon, I wouldn't mind seeing Jagielka being phased out over the course of this season for the sake of youth.

Catterick knew even before that momentous night that Colin Harvey was destined to be a legend ! He was sheer class.

As he went no to prove to make the best 3 CM line ever. How would you compare him to Barkley out of interest.

BTW, did not go To Milan but was at the first leg in GP.

By the by, does anyone know of any pubs in town which will stream the 3pm k/o against City?

I haven't been impressed with us when we've played that formation either. We need a winger/No10 whatever we play because that's what we're lacking.

Bit weird that Martinez, when answering questions on McCarthy, was vague on when he would be back. He seemed very confident the other day that McCarthy would be back for City. I hope that hasn't changed as I feel like he'd help us a lot more than Barry defensively, given their style of attack.

After the hammers game this will put the spotlight on Jags, hope he comes out of his recent torpor and plays like the Jags of old.

I will hold my hand up here, if McC unfit leave Barry on the bench play Garbutt there.

'What i want to see is none of the fancy crap that we keep doing.

So no baines in midfield, no eto'o and preferably no barry.

go the 4 33 with mcCarthy sitting deep with besic and being engines. Barkley to get forward and roll the ball between lukaku and the wingers. Baines and coleman to bomb forward at every attempt, with more emphasis in the second half when naismith comes on. Lukaku not to wander unless it puts someone through on goal. Just have our striker as a striker and have his job to score and everyone elses job to make sure that happens.

City have their own game and we need to lock them down and play our own. We can beat them, especially at home, just need to go back to hwat made us so good and play with a bit of confidence rather than shying away.
