i see oviedo starting as a negaive. i think garbutt is better, has a lot more potential, and he's deffo gonna leave
I think we would know by now that he's going to leave and if so Oviedo is the more experienced player. We should be playing Oviedo.

I'd have to question the relative experience of either player tbh. Oviedo only played something like 35-40 games in a very poor league before he signed for us and Garbutt has played that or more in his two loan spells in England. Only case for experience is Oviedo playing more games for Costa Rica than Garbutt has in the England youth teams.

Since when did Barry plsy well last night? He gave the ball away loads of times, was half a yard behind the play so kept fouling people and slowed down most of our decent attacks. Besic outshone him in every single way.

Unfortunately whoscored doesn't have the stats but my impression last night was that Barry started to go missing in the 2nd half but was very good in the 1st half.

They both gave the ball away a lot and both made a lot of tackles. My impression was that Barry was better in the first half and worse in the 2nd until Besic got subbed. But ironically once Besic went off Barry got better again probably due to us chasing the game and seeing more of the ball.

There is still times though that it looks like teams walk past Barry like he's a statue but his reading the game meant last night that those occurrences didn't happen too often like they have in the past.

Oviedo has been around the first team a lot more and last season played in some pretty big games and contributed. Garbutt has played at Newcastle and did OK.

If Garbutt is leaving he can sit on the bench unless Oviedo and Baines are both injured. It's a shame because I really like him but right now it doesn't benefit us to play him because he won't be our player in the future.

Besic: 90% passing, 82 touches (52 passes), 3 dribbles, 9 tackles
Barry: 83% passing, 71 touches (58 passes), 5 tackles

So Besic went forward much more with the ball by himself than Barry. But I think Barry played quite well, maybe this was the order from RM.

Positives:
Lukaku was better
Stones was back
We didnt lose

Negatives:
I could name 8 of the 11 who were average/piss poor
Oviedo - for me doesnt cut it at left back
Jags - what is he playing at

But that said team for Saturday if fit should be:

Joel
Coleman Stones Jags Baines
Besic Barkley
Mirrallas Naismith Kone
Lukaku

That's exactly what I would have thought. Besic was better but Barry was decent too plus a lot of Besic's passes are very short to Barry and it's Barry's responsibility to setup play and Besic's to hunt the ball. They both did their jobs well last night.

Absolute. Suicide.
Ordinarily I'd agree going in to face Aguero and co. But if Jagielka continues his form into this City game it's suicidal to play him in there too. I ask myself would Browning have done worse than Jagielka there last night, and the answer comes back a resounding no.

It's not a one off; Jagielka's head has gone. He's not out there on the pitch. And when he does wake up to take part it's merely to make another mistake.

Colin Harvey was blooded by Harry Catterick at the age of 19 in the European Cup at the San Siro Stadium against Inter Milan.

Wasn't there but maybe the circumstances were different, one definite difference was that it was away in Europe (Garbutt against Wolfsburg). Probably came into a strong confident unit as well, also a midfielder not a centre back.

We are a team in need of something, I don't think blooding a young centre back against the champions at home has a strong enough argument. There is an argument but I personally believe that despite his form Jags will have that experience to overcome it in this game.

If we were talking about an attacking midfielder then maybe but defensively a manager has to be a bit more cautious when to bring them through.

Anyway, positives from last night. I think we mixed it up a lot more and played to a few players strengths rather than trying to get them to adapt. The home game against Man Utd last season showed that Martinez can change it up, if needed. Unfortunately, he has stuck to his guns for far too long this season.

Just showed if we get the ball the Lukaku, he will score - he can score goals (yes he will miss some chances)

Play to Lukaku's strengths

There is the problem Dave, we will not have a replacement in in time for at least the next 3 games so looks like it will have to be Jags every time!

I dont think we'll get another player in now. This is what we have until next season, imo. We hope againt hope that Jagielka pulls his head out of his arse or we fast track someone like Browning. They're the stark choices.

It's false economy. We could lose some serious placement cash and tv cash if we stay where we are, and in any case we'll need to buy a CB in the summer (two probably) so may as well get ahead of the ga,e right now.
