Because they're knobs? I'm a member of the Legion and always wear a poppy at this time of the year, but this whole 'fashion item' one-upmanship is odd.

No, it's crass and completely tarnishing the real motive behind them.
Virtue signalling rather than virtue.

It's all too commonplace from the top to the bottom of society I'm afraid, probably always was.
 
It's not about remembrance but about being seen to remember.

When I was growing up I asked my grandfather about his part in the war; he was a commando who fought his way through Italy and the Balkans. He became a military policeman and was part of the detachment that accepted the surrender of Caserta.

Every year he would run a collection tin for the British Legion, but he would be mortified by the hi-jacking of the act of remembrance. He spoke often and well about the shift in Britain away from the values he and his mates felt they were fighting for.

A lot of the pictures in this thread made me laugh, a couple offended me and one will haunt me in my sleep: thanks @jaycee for that.
