A perfect personification of the ignorance of people. It's why social media does my head in. People who don't really understand a cause or what they're supporting, but go all in anyway. Basically turning everyone into kopites.

Americanisation of our culture is very real.
The entire point of it is that it's a subtle symbol for those that fought and died for our freedoms, not some crass display "my poppy is bigger than urs and send them back".

It's not about remembrance but about being seen to remember.
When I was growing up I asked my grandfather about his part in the war; he was a commando who fought his way through Italy and the Balkans. He became a military policeman and was part of the detachment that accepted the surrender of Caserta.
Every year he would run a collection tin for the British Legion, but he would be mortified by the hi-jacking of the act of remembrance. He spoke often and well about the shift in Britain away from the values he and his mates felt they were fighting for.
A lot of the pictures in this thread made me laugh, a couple offended me and one will haunt me in my sleep: thanks @jaycee for that.
