It's a good idea to do plan for expansion from 50K to 60k if we ever get to that potential, but also in the first 2 seasons, why not make 5000 tickets available at £15
I think the design of the stadium can help a lot in building atmosphere, not just the capacity. 60k can be a brilliant atmosphere if we make it a 'close to the pitch' style of stadium

They should extend what they do now with ST holders, where they give them a voucher to bring a friend for a reduced price.

The walk ups are in a ring around the periphery or one part of the ground- less disturbance to armopshere/appearance

Does anyone think the the club are just playing it safe to avoid any negativity if it isn't quite 60K? Everything that has been said so far points to the Capacity being 55K+...For example, last week, the Esk wrote that article about Elstone's comments regarding 35-40K season ticket holders which caused some concern, given West Ham for example have 50K+ STH. But having looked back, Elstone actually hasn't changed that view since July last year:

https://toffeeweb.com/season/17-18/news/35246.html

“There's a really strong business case for that because probably the most important revenue stream that the new stadium will deliver is 35,000 to 40,000 season ticket holders who are going to come back year after year and who can't wait to renew their season ticket.

In the same article, Elstone said:

“We are still not absolutely decided on capacity and part of the consultation process [with fans] will help shape that. We're much more confident of being bold and ambitious on capacity than we were two or three years ago. We have got a genuine waiting list both in terms of general admission and premium seats. Ultimately, where we get to on capacity isn't decided yet but I think we'll be ambitious and I think the number will be a big one."

I understand the negativity towards him, but even if he is cautious, he knows full well that the majority of our fanbase do not view 50-52K as bold and ambitious. Kenwright was also quoted as saying:

Asked what the capacity of Everton’s proposed new stadium should be, Kenwright replied: Gosh, for me, the minimum would be 55,000 seats.”

There was also that leaked document from Buro Happold Engineering showing 57,982 as the Capacity.

You know what?

If we want to be a big club then we have to accept that more and more of our fans will come from abroad

Part of being big is that you have mass appeal to everyone, not just people from your own part of the country

If we want to fill a 60000+ ground, then we'll need out of towners as well. It's a harsh reality that people need to get on board with

I agree Mikey, It was more a case of tongue in cheek from me.

I disagree mate, say four years time we move into a 60k plus stadium, and we are still in the same boat performance wise.

Every new stadium struggles initially for a few years to get the atmosphere back or to rebuild a lost one, a 60k crowd will bring in a bit more money, but I'd almost guarantee the atmosphere will be worse at 60 than it'd be at 50 say, unless they do something groundbreaking with the pricing to attract local lads who have been priced out.

I think us building off the bat a 60-65k stadium would be another example of us trying to run before we can walk, same as we've seen with trying to rush a dof model, manager changes and 250m spend on the team has been done.

Juve built a 42k with plans sorted prior to building for a 10k expansion. And what it gave them was packed out crowds, a nasty arse atmosphere and made it fast feel like home due to that, now when they expand they will be doing so whilst keeping those things.

For us, a 50k stadium with locked in plans for a future 10k expansion pre designed into the build would leave me happy, so long as that ensures we build to make the place a proper intimidating ground.

We move into a 60k straight off the bat, I'd worry seriously that a lot of games we'd be 75% capacity after that first season. And whilst monetarily that wouldn't matter, it'd kill the positivity about the move and we'd have a west ham thing about we should never have moved going round quick.

I agree that stadium capacity doesnt equal success...

However you seem to believe that atmosphere equals success.

I can point out 3 clubs with grounds with a good atmosphere - Everton, Stoke, Crystal Palace

Vs

3 clubs with grounds lacking atmosphere - Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool

Now try tell me good atmosphere gives us more chance of success mate.

I know where your coming from but I don't get why your so adverse to us having a big ground mate sirely we all should want the biggest and shinest ground posible?

I'v said from day one 55-57k with the option to expand is the ideal stadium for me, but I would much rather a 60/65k ground than a 50k one.

I believe the way that fan capacity preference was worded in the press release was strategic. It was so vague it was almost useless as any sort of guide (although they said that detail would be forthcoming in later fan consultations early next month, I still fully expect them to box clever on a decision on capacity).

That strategy is likely to be to keep all situations on quality and quantity in play until PP is asked for, because they'll still be generating info on cost in a year or so time. Depending on those likely costs - design, materials and capacity will all be on a sliding scale in terms of ability to deliver. In short: I could just as easily see this being 52,000 or 60,000 - depending on those costings and also a number of other factors concerning economic outlook and industry developments in terms of revenue that would influence a final decision.
