Playing Politics

..celebrities who air political views often sound condescending, as if they know best because they’re important. Much better they live their lives quietly caring for others who are less fortunate.

Listening is of course a choice, you seem offended by people who make the opposite choice to yourself, if others don't want to put every person in a specific box, and ignore everything outside of that box, then what's so terrible about that?

I'm not offended. I don't care. I'm not interested in their opinion. Same as I'm not interested in hearing politicians harp on about football.

Then why implore people to embrace the same stance as you did previously in this very thread? personally I don't see anything unusual about being interested in other people and what makes them tick, particularly those at the forefront of our own extra curricular interests, the modern day desire for soulless squeaky clean role models is boring, and the main driving factor is to sell more advertising

Absolutely.

As an extension of this, how many of us for our livelihoods needs to be extremely talented, unbelievably lucky to have been picked up for it, fantastically hardworking in our teenage years when it's all a mad distraction, and completely single minded to get our career at the direct expense of our peers?

Certainly not me, but a professional footballer (certainly at a premier league club) has to have been all these things. Bit difficult to say that society has absolutely nothing to learn from these individuals. They've succeeded in one of the most ultra competitive industries.

We certainly have a lot to learn from them. Most of it relates to the deadening part of society/humans. Who in their right mind would dedicate so much time and sacrifice so much to be a footballer? Many are in it for the prestige and the wealth. The products of a capitalist society where competition and performance are the key signifiers.

You're really displaying how little you care about it by posting in a thread about the very topic you don't care about.

So people are only allowed to express an opinion if it fits your criteria now?

Question was asked if you'd like players to express themselves politically and I said their political opinions are of no interest to me. What's unreasonable about that?
