Distin - Thought he was such a poor replacement for lescott, and expensive given his age. For probably six months he looked poor, then all of a sudden he got it together and age has not been a factor whatsoever, Not a top top CB but a very good one for the 5M we paid.

Always thought Gibson would be ok, didn't think he'd be such an important cog in the team tho.
Always thought Coleman would end up ok, once he was moved back to his proper posistion, made me fume at RW tho that second season!

And a final mention for Ossie, I know he still has weaknesses but he's got better and better with age.

Big Dunc - wasn't enthralled at all when he arrived but he changed my mind very quickly!
From other teams, I remember when V Nistelrooy went to Man Utd and I said he was rubbish and wouldn't score many because the Dutch league was so weak compared to the mighty premier league - how wrong was I?!! haha

In recent times - Fellaini.

I though he was an absolute yard dog when we first signed him. The pace of the game left him behind, he couldn't tackle, positionally he was often caught out & he looked to have the touch of a rapist. However, he's gone on to make me eat my words, for me, he's developed into one of the finest all round midfielders in the division, with the best chest control that I've ever witnessed. I'll be gutted to see him leave this summer, as I think he's unique, so he gives us something that others fear.

Victor Anichebe - I used to hate hearing his name on the team sheet and was always convinced he was a Championship player. I was fuming when he started against Liverpool at anfield when they beat us 3-0. Absolutely fuming. He had a good season this year and I think he started to prove me wrong.

Bilyaletdinov - watched some of his games in Russia before he signed and thought we were signing an unbelievable attacking midfielder who could slot in behind the striker. How good was he in the Europa cup game? Didn't get enough games in my opinion and couldn't adapt to the league. Not a bad player with potential but never got to see him excel.

Richard gough, I thought it was a joke signing but had a decant season, don Hutchinson, I just never rated him but turned out to our best player for a while, thought the same about kevin Campbell, non were brilliant but did a good job for us

I'd agree with that, never rated him for at least a year. Remember his debut at Stoke when he looked scared of the ball. Castillo made his debut the same day and looked a much better player

Naismith in reverse... I was one of those tools saying "give him time he will be boss through the middle behind the striker"

Yeah I know, I know... I've paid my dues

Keown used to be met with donkey calls from the Street end for his first season. Turned out a machine of a defender.

Bily - I really thought he was going to be great, sort of like what we have now with Mirallas. Still annoyed it didn't work out.

Distin - thought we were wasting millions on a 1-season solution.

Lescott - thought he was committed to the club.
