Completely overlooking the fact that a modern FB needs to defend and contribute going forward as well (the later is almost more important in teams that keep the ball well).

Baines and Jagielka are both passed there sell by dates. However both have been good servants to the club and should be appreciated for that in the summer and then moved on. Unfortunately there can be no room for sentiment however good you've been in the past. Baines was in the top 3 LB in the world but is now just very average as he has lost his attacking threat which made up for him being defensively suspect. Jagielka has lost his pace and although still reads the game well he isn't what we need to move forward.

I agree totally with what you say, but the op was players that signed for us for 1 last pay day or words to that effect, and in no way shape or form can that be leveled at them two players, but that doesn't suit certain posters agenda who come on here and have a pop at their ability at the end of their careers, any excuse it seems .
