Lennon was an ok signing.
Kone was a pretty unlikely gamble, given the combination of age, previous record and fee.
McGeady and Alcaraz were clearly never going to be any good.

None therefore fit the definition given by the OP.

Drenthe and Van Der Meyde - they both fit the description.

Bilic was a massive disappointment, especially when he came back from the dead and played for another 10 years.
