Players we really should not have kept so long

..if we’re talking about youngsters bought for U23 level, then I think the number coming through would be low but if you think of the money we got for Stones, plus the likes of DCL and Holgate the strategy does make sense. Hornby, Adeniran and Gibson will be interesting to watch.
I read a stat a few weeks ago that only .8 % ( that’s point 8 % ) of all 8/11 lads that sign for a PL academy actually make an appearance for that team

We have been guilty of keeping players too long...

We need to be more ruthless with players & look to continuously improve every year which means making difficult decisions sometimes...

Side back? Never heard that term, sounds like an American football term. Can't remember Alcaraz, mind you, I can't remember what I had for breakfast. Wikipedia states that he is a central defender (Centre half when I played).

no idea where i got side-back from then lol

Does anyone remember that when alcaraz FIRST signed people actually liked him and thought he was good for a while? I do

I really CBA looking back over the forum but 1million% people at the time thought he was half decent when he started his everton career quite well ( more quality over quantity in regards to apps ) thing just went massilvely downhill towards the end of the season, remember him getting a red card or something and then kiev finished him off

Yeah he did a solid enough job at first. I think the own goal against Southampton after like 2 minutes didn't help him much either.

ok I was bored on my dinner and actually found the alcaraz thread, people seemed to really like him at first ( I remember him being quite decent and good on the ball to be fair ) someone even went as far as saying he was like franz beckenbauer HAHAHAHHAHA

Alcaraz and Williams for sure. Possibly the worst 2 CBs of recent times.
Glenn Keeley falls into the same category , but from a previous era.

Mirallas because of his attitude.

Gascoigne and Ginola , as they were so far past their best that after a couple of games they had been here too long.

From a management point of view, undoubtedly Martinez ,who was a one trick pony ,who largely simply added goals via Lukaku to what Moyes had put in place. Nearly everyone had rumbled him ages before he was potted.

From a board point of view, Peter Johnson, who almost brought the club to its knees.

Gareth Barry. People still pretending he was a top midfield player when half the league was running through him. He wasn’t even first choice for a West Brom team that then got relegated. Even now some fans still say he should have stayed. He should have been punted after his abysmal 14/15 season.
