Players leaving Everton going to pot

A lot of this has to do with a player's relative importance to the squad.

Fellaini, Lescott and Rodwell were all more important to us than they were to their new clubs. That was down to the size and the relative quality of our squad.

Essentially, they were bigger fish in a smaller pond. That's not a slight on our club, just our squad size and depth. Rooney and Arteta are the only ones to have made the transition to a bigger, deeper squad - but it makes sense that the others have struggled to match the impact they had here. It comes down to numbers, really.

To say that Lescott has "gone to pot" is overstating it, but he certainly was a better player when he played for us. He's now not in consideration for England and is a mere squad player at Man City. On the other hand, he's got a Cup Winners and a League Championship medal and he obtained a massive increase in salary so I doubt if he's crying on his way to the bank.

As for Rodwell, he's deteriorated in every way, again other than financially.

I reckon Rooney would have been a far better individual player if he had stayed with us. He won more medals at Man U. The price of that was to become one of Fergie's workhorses.......

One of Fergie's workhorses? I doubt Moyes would have given him an easy ride.. spared him from tracking back or working the flanks on account of his footballing genius.

Possibly true. However, can it be coincidence that he starts banging in long range screamers again as soon as he plays under Moyes?

TBF he scored plenty of long range screamers throughout his United career.. not sure if you've got any stats to back up your theory that he's scoring more under Moyes than Fergie?

Two big ones that spring to my mind is Martin Keown &, Marco Materazzi (5 Seria A titles, 4 Italian Cups, 1 Champions League and a World Cup winners medal) and Seria Defender of the Year award in 2007)

Hounded out of this league by our brave referees. Booked/sent off regularly for what Stevei G does 10 times a game.

Watching Rooney last night v Bayern I couldn't help but marvel at the development of his talent at Man U. Clearly, he has come a long way from the young lad who had the crowd on their feet every time he was given the ball........

Micheal Branch turned to Pot literally didn't he? Kevin Richardson won the league with Arsenal and played in the 1989 match which they beat Liverpool at Anfield in the last minute of the last game to take it.

We should have held on to Materazzi. Also from that same transfer window Olivier Dacourt improved loads after leaving Everton won the serie a and was key in that Leeds CL effort.
