The biggest issue with Howard is that the calamities can happen at any time.

Sure he may pull off 1 or 2 decent saves to keep us in a game or keep a lead but suddenly he'll have lead in his boots, giant foam fingers for hands and it'll all go down hill and fast.

Usually as soon as the 1st error has been made the rest will follow very quickly as well so it's hard to respond or for him to get any confidence again.

Just because other teams have crap goalkeepers doesn't mean we should be happy to.
I'm not saying we should be happy. I'm saying people around here proclaiming Howard as the worst keeper in the league are talking out their backsides. We clearly should be looking to upgrade at the position -- our starter is 36 years old and in decline and our backup doesn't look Premier League quality. Our options are more limited than people think, though, and almost nonexistent until the season's over.

I don't know why we can't have more measured discussions about this players. You've done well.

I probably don't watch enough of the lower teams to judge their keepers too well. But there doesn't seem to be as many keepers making the sorts of mistakes against us as Howard does for us, if that makes sense.

That's because we haven't played many of those lower half keepers yet this season. Stekelenburg, Myhill, Mignolet, and Fabianski are the only keepers we've played that aren't in that top tier I mentioned above. We didn't test Fabianski at all, Mignolet had his best match of the season, and we scored three each against Myhill and Stekelenburg. If Howard gets outplayed by Pantilimon and Adrian in November, I'll change my tune, but I'm not going to base my opinion of Howard on how well he matches up against De Gea or Hart.
