One of my favourite bands. Much more commercial than Jefferson Airpane, or The Grateful Dead, Who I’m also a big fan of.

Same here. Loved all that stuff. All those bands had a distinctive sound and they were prepared to experiment - not always with positive results!

But somehow it didn't matter. Marketability wasn't the bottom line, or didn't appear to be, in those days.

Jim Morrison, Grace Slick or Jerry Garcia didn't have an accountant whispering in their ears all the time. They were free spirits. We all were, maaan!

We could spend a good night together drinking, and listening to those three bands, along with talking about that 77 cup final.

I've recently discovered Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports and it's brilliant! It really should be called Nick Mason, Robert Wyatt & Carla Bley as it's very much a team effort. For my taste this is my favourite Floyd 'solo' album, as the others all seem to be a part of the Floyd sound without the whole Floyd experience, whereas Fictitious Sports has its own identity, sounds nothing like Floyd...more like Zappa-meets-Soft Machine.
