Pienaar would seal more of the same but 2 more would take us to the next level

I think Newcastle and Liverpool will suffer because of Europe this season, not majorly but enough for us to top them in the table. If we start well, 6th place it is for us

Gerrard the 32 year old who hardly looked impressive this season bar his games against us.

And comments like 'They will be found out this season' are totally meaningless, going on the performances given in the season that just went i would much rather have Newcastle's best players than Liverpool's.

totally agree with brennan here, newcastle's team and squad are way better, and they seem to be after good players in the transfer market as a result, whilst liverpool are looking at second rate players

Liverpool have a strong core of 5 or so players, but when you have people like Henderson and Charlie friggin Adam playing a lot of games for you then you know your team isn't up to much. Newcastle have a stronger overall starting eleven.

Does anyone really believe if we'd had Pienaar the whole year we would have still finished 7th? Fair play if you do, but I don't. The FA Cup semifinal showed us just how important he is to us when he's in the side. We also didn't have Jelavic until January. If you tell me we're adding Pienaar, and get a Jelavic all year...we have plenty of upside from 7th. Add Donovan, and we'll win a cup, and probably finish top 5.

The thing is though mate, the other teams are strengthening too.

I still can't see anything different from the past 2 seasons.

Unless we sell again (could happen) to get another striker, a winger, another, creative player and a full back, we are running into the same wall.

Add to that the Davey Moyes approach to football (not losing first, winning second) we will only go so far.

Jelavic and Pienaar pop a hammy, season dented big time. Jury still out on Kneesmith being able to play in the epl with 2 bust knees

Nailed.

We still have very little depth in the final third of the pitch. Now if we were to sign a player who can play up front, on the wing and behind the striker, who is proven in the Premier League and also loves the club.....

think at start of summer if someone said we,d sign pieraar and still have baines and fellaini still at the club we,d have been happy add naismith singing all in all happy with summer

I like this thread, it should be renamed sense and sensibility so here is the sensiblity part.

Totally agree with a previous comment on having Pienaar not cup tied and him with Jelavic for a complete season should make a massive difference. However there is this, I feel that a few players that have started training late should have come back at the same time ie Jags and Baines, they didnt play a game in the Euros and therefore have just trained and should come back to Club football with the others. The pictures on the OS from Austria mainly showed the kids which personally is a waste of time get them all there they get paid enough all this stuff about extended breaks is ballocks.

Okay so starting is a problem, well our players are fresh, not many of them have had major heavy summer breaks ie Euros or Olympics. I am thinking that this first game of the season against Man Ure is one of the biggest season openers for us in decades as it could have a massive influence on the complete rest of season, win against them and the lads will be chomping at the bit!

As for who is better the barcodes or the red ****e then thats for a different thread however as someone once said the league table doesnt lie. I do however hope that come May 2013 we are this time above both of them because I hate the B&WS nearly as much as the RS.

I am sure Moyes is confident of a few suprise signings before the new season otherwise he wouldnt have agreed the Cahill deal, I have got a 4-4-2 feeling for next season.

Oh and before I finish I put a post on this site a month or so a go about Fellaini and Baines still being Everton players on the first game of the season and offering £100 bets on it and a few people were saying Baines will be going Man Ure not a chance this window : )

I'd say we were a match for any team in the league in the second half of the season, and the results back that up. I tend to be an optimist though.

streghtening yes chelsea have qpr have man utd have added quality but other than that teams have added but not pure quality arsenal losing van persie spurs modric think that weakens both of them newcastle wont be as good again red****e added borini enough said just me properly but im happy with our summer

Don't be surprised if Van Persie stays until January.

Is this the thread to be wildly optimistic in ?

Ok - bit of a run from us and a bit of a wobble from spurs, arse of Chelski and we might sneak top four

If I'm in a thread started by Davek and therefore a little darker then 8 to 10th is best we can hope for. Best of the third group.

Seventh for me, with an FA Cup semi and a third round Milk Cup exit to Bournemouth on a wet Tuesday.

Our best performance was Sunderland away in the FA Cup quarter final, Pienaar didnt play in that one.

maybe all right but playing him after he saying he wants to go wudnt be great for teammates and fans think they prob try sell him during summer but not to a premier team if they can help it!
