Pienaar and his contract.....

I'd also add that he's a workhorse, easily our most hardworking player. He covers more ground that anyone else in the team, he was doing that even with players like Carsley and Andy Johnson at the club.

He has the effort to go with his natural ability, he's a dream of a player really. Sign him up, show the ambition, do whatever it takes really.

Hasnt he earned it though?

When he's not in the side we look average to poor. Like Toccy says, he and Arteta are the heartbeat of the side. Through Bily in their and you have a classy, technically gifted hard working midfield.

It depends on what he is wanting.

Has he earned a new contract?
Yes, I believe he has shown enough to be awarded a new contract, and yes, I believe he is a very important aquisition for our side.

Has he earned a diamond encrusted contract with wages that the club can't afford?

No.

Ask me again at the end of the season and we can see if his consistency has improved.

I agree with everything you say, but only on his 'A' game.
He has been inconsistent this year, and that's the difference between class, and world class.
Time will tell.

What does that mean?

You just have to look at how creative he is to be honest. 14 assists in his first season, 11 in his second, the majority of them coming from open play. Add his workrate and importance to the team and you can see where I'm coming from.

On the whole, he's been a very good player for Everton. He's coming into his prime and is easily one of the best in his position in the League, we should do all we can to get him signed up.

I want him to stay as much as the next man, and he is certainly our best footballer, but we can't afford huge wages, and we can't afford to have a Prima Donna, not that he is one.
By all means make him our highest earner, if he isn't already, but he needs to show he can do it for a full season, and not just in patches, as like I said, at the beginning of the season, he was pretty mediocre, and Baines being rubbish was probably a big reason why.

His fantasy league points are dismalllllll !!!

Would be shattered if he bailed. Pretty much my favourite player. That said its understandable for players like Pienaar to want to go to bigger clubs and make real names of themselves.

Give him what he wants as long as it fits our wage structure. Heitingas reported huge wages will be a problem in every single contract discussion from now on. You cant pay 1 player huge wages and expect the rest of the squad to be happy about it.

Pienaar will be gone in the Summer. We need to realise this.

Ofcourse, I'm not saying pay him ridiculous wages. But he deserves to be up there with the top earners at the club and I'd like to hope he will be.

He wasn't mediocre at the start of the season. He was easily our best player during the Arsenal game, one of the few who seemed to be trying. The AEK game, the Blackburn game, the Wigan game, both Sigma games.

Has he been good every game? No, but he's easily been one of our best players. His performances since he's been back have also been impressive, even in the middle of the park, against AEK.

What wages is Heitinga on?

He probably just wants to play in the Champions League. It is very awkward for clubs like us, we are on a par with many of the CL teams in other leagues but can't qualify to give our better players what they want. I can't really see him starting every game for any of the top sides, so where would he go?

I don't think it would take much to keep him to be honest, give him parity with our top earners and finish the season well. Saying that, he's never been one to come out and say how much he loves it at Everton. He may well be open to a move to a lesser CL club, who knows.

i see this as a player who is looking at the w.c. to get a 'big' move. he doesnt even have to perform for us as the w.c. is the biggest stage he can get.i expect a training ground incident to be instigated around mid april to keep him at the club.

a real case of "heeeeeeeeeeeeere's johnny"

Gutted if he left but can easy see him being sold if his wage demands are clearly out of Everton's league. Sad but true.

It's a slippery slope that Everton can't get on - if they meet Pienaar's wage demands, who is next? Rodwell? Hard to see young Jack be willing to ride out his current contract through 2013 if more flush clubs come by waving 3x -4x his current wages.

I think Danny hit the nail on the head, all our current players want to see the Club going forward, if not, they will move on. Its not just about wages, I said at the start of the Lescott deal, if he saw the Club advancing he might have stayed. Same with Pienaar really, he wants a little bit more money and he wants to see the CLub move forward.

I think he said somewhere he wanted Champs League football with us.

He may be waiting some time, or seeing out his contract - having a great World Cup then us taking a decent offer as he could talk to clubs next January.

Shame, but that's how soccer works. He's vital to our team.

Thing is, where would he go? Arsenal? Villa, spurs, city? Can't see him going to Man U/Chel/Liverpool. After that its only abroad. One of the higher clubs in Spain, other than Real and Barca?
