He's gone now pal.

Yeah, but Merica actually asked him to be their head of state. Now thats embarrassing. I can do without all the drama and gossip and the sort of coverage Phils death has created, and day to day, I give them not a moments thought. If one of the first team was planting a tree near me, would I go? Nah.

But constitutionally, thats what we have had for hundreds of years. I am not convinced replacing that with something else we dont know what will be is that wise a move personally.

Exhibit A. Brexit.

"There will be eight days of national mourning ahead of the funeral"

Hope that's not mandatory...

I doubt it. She would get slaughtered over here. There will be an unexpected complication with her pregnancy that will stop her from flying.....

“A source adds that Meghan, who is heavily pregnant, made “every effort” to travel but didn’t receive medical clearance from her physician.".....

Disgusting amount of coverage and fuss. And we’re only on day two...

Dont read it. I havnt. He died, hardly a shock, but a bit saddened for 10 mins or so. I think it makes the web sites and papers look stupid. And as for BBC last night, pathetic.

If that 8 days of mourning is correct, (I very much doubt), just pathetic on speed.

I haven’t read or watched anything myself, but there is an overbearing amount of space dedicated to him on news websites I use, his face seemed to be plastered everywhere when I went to Birmingham yesterday, minutes bloody silence before the football? Eight days mourning? Just seems absolutely ridiculous - especially considering he wasn’t a particularly nice man (based on the the huge amount of insensitive or unpleasant things he is reported to have said over the years).

The Queen does not make laws, she just signs them off. She is also still the Head of State, on a voluntary basis, of a number of other countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. She is not ‘picked’ by politicians such as Merkel and Macron who may be gone next year. She has been a constant while 14 Prime Ministers and 13 US Presidents and innumerable other Presidents and Chancellors have come and gone. She has seen it all, entertained them all, and always did so for the benefit of the U.K. ... perhaps you would rather VDL or Michel from the EU. When you put your anti monarchy view to the side for a moment, you will see how lucky that the U.K. has been in having a non political Sovereign as Head of State.....or would you prefer Boris, Blair, Brown, Maggie or May.....
I mean the royal family are immensely powerful and certainly have huge political influence and a history of political meddling as proven by recent revelations from letters sent by Prince Charles (and that is only the things we are aware of)
The idea that the queen is some sort of martyr for the benefit of the U.K. is bananas. She’s lived a life wanting nothing.
I don’t particularly mind her to be honest but what would happen if someone was throned who had ideas of self grandeur and chose to get more politically involved?
