Phil Neville.....

...I'm a fan but appreciate his appeal is more about his impact on others than his playing ability. Saying that, I prefer him to Coleman who I think is work in progress and has cost us defensively this season. I'm hoping that young Stone leapfrogs them all in the near future.
Interesting interview with Arteta on Soccer AM on Saturday where he spoke in glowing terms about Neville's influence and professionalism.

Most baffling statement I've read on here, and this is GOT were talking about.

There was a moment on Saturday against Oldham, Anichebe and Jelavic were in the box, Victor just a bit ahead of Jelavic. On the far side Pienaar was in space, but marked relatively tight and Baines was a bit behind him.

The ball is at Neville's feet. He's going to cross is. Surely to one of the strikers in the box. Surely?

Oh no. It's a devastatingly bad floated thing (can't think of a better word than that) in Pienaar's general direction. My old man even mentioned this exact moment when discussing the match. And he watches Carlos Edwards every week.

That was it. The end.

Neville knows he can only play in the middle of the park becuase his legs and 2 knee ops won,t allow him to play right back. He can get away with it in CM not saying I would want him in there but that is the situ.

I sometime wonder if pip might as well played for liverpool before he came here for the dogs treatment he gets from sections of the crowd. His old fella has to listen to that most matches, thing is, no one else leads by example off the pitch like phil and he is the only one who wants to organize the team on it.

and before anyone pipes up I don,t think he should be in the team but thanks to Bill our options are limited when it come to splashing the cash, early doors.

Can we make him a player-manager? I don't deny that he has a roll to play for our team, and that his leadership and experience and even the pointing are all important. But he has to pay attention the realities of his age. If he did change to a player-manager for the rest of the season

-It would provide some managerial continuity if Moyes leaves at the end of the season, as he could stay on as an assistant manager into next season

-He can still be used in important matches, if we're winning 2-0 in a cup final, I would love for him to come on to shore up the defense.

-Jagielka has been incredible this season and imo deserves to be out-and-out captain of the team. (I guess if player-manager phil gets subbed on he could take back the band)

-He'll still be around for players like coleman and stones to learn from.

We cannot go on thinking of Phil Neville as a reasonable option for the starting 11. His limited pace forces him to make backwards passes so he doesn't get caught in possession, and it completely kills our flow when we're building his attack. I think it could even give the team a lift if Moyes or Phil announced that Phil would be both player and assistant manager for the remainder of the season.

although he's not the best player in the squad the stats suggest where better off when he plays that has to stand for something. I think theres another year left for the skipper yet

Can we think of and list any other clubs with European aspirations that play hysterically awful 36 year olds in important positions like we do?

Manchester Utd: Scholes, Giggs = Both are still phenomenal considering their age.
Manchester City: I'm honestly surprised that Gareth Barry plays for them as he's awful, not on par with Pip though, and 5 years younger.
Chelsea: Cole, Terry and Lampard = Lampard has outscored any of our players, Cole and Terry are certainly on the downturn but they remain of a very high calibre...Paolo Ferrera and Cuidicini don't get anywhere near the squad, if indeed they're still there.
Tottenham: Gallas is to be released at the end of the season, don't watch them enough to suss out how good/bad he might be nowadays, anyone help me out?
Arsenal: Oldest member of the starting XI is either Sagna or Arteta I think, and while Sagna is on the downturn a team like us wouldn't be sticking their noses up at him.
Liverpool: Carra la is retiring at the end of the season and Stevie Me has unfortunately been brilliant for them this season, the squad is full of average players but most of them have at least a decade on Pip.
Swansea: Can't think of anyone off the bat, Angel Rangel might be getting on but from what i've seen of him i've been impressed.

So there we have it, plenty of players at Neville's age still playing for their respective clubs but unfortunately for us they're all bloody decent...it really is embarassing hearing us big ourselves up for the Europa/Champions League with Phil Neville walking into centre midfield most matches.

Anybody who has seen Neville play this season knows that fact is pure coincidence.

he for some reason missed the big matches against Chelsea , Man City , Tottenham and Arsenal - there is your explanation

People saying he will make a great player/manager, are you being serious?
If so, what, because his brother talks a good game on sky?
There's a difference between analysing a game, and being proactive during a game, preparing a game and generally managing a football team.
The mind boggles, seems a nice lad to be fair, but, come on, we're talking about everton football club, here. Not, Stockport county!
Sorry, was not meant to quote you sideliner, sorry. Can't be bothered going back changing it now.
