I don't think bringing up Jagielka's England career supports the arguement that he is in anyway a cut above Johnny Evans.

Jagielka was at fault many times for England and seemed to be continually ridiculed.

I haven't said he wasn't a good player. I'm just taking exception that he is head and shoulders above other good defenders who have achieved more.

Hardly a shocking point to make.
I just get the impression you're basing it on trophys won, which in my opinion isn't the guage of an individual player. Jagielka at his peak would have won trophys in a Utd team.

The original point I made a few days ago was that nobody in the top 6 would want Jagielka. Somebody then pointed out that City want Evans, implying that Jagielka is somehow superior to Evans.

What are we basing that on exactly? What is the barometer?

One of the greatest managers of all time put their faith in Evans and now Guardiola, who could have his pick of most players, also wants Evans.

I remember when Jagielka was linked with United and their fans were going mad.

He is a good defender, I'm not denying that. I admired Jagielka for years, but to suggest he is so much better than many other good defenders in the league is wrong.

There is nothing shocking in that statement.

City want someone like Evans to stroll about at the back. Jags doesn't stroll well. He stomps.
I'd rather have him in my team than Evans though.

We'll just beg to differ mate, it's what the forums for. I'm not a big fan of Evans myself, and Guardiola has yet to prove himself to be a master defensive tactician in this league.

Some people will first know what Jags means to Everton FC when he hang his boots up, the other ones love him (including me ).

I love him till death, so much that I named my lad after him. Every day of the week I would have a Jagielka in my team.
His attitude to throw every part of his body in the line for his team is second to no one.

Evans started in and won two cup finals for United.

He also started many games as CB in title winning seasons.

What's Jagielka done?

He's a good defender, but to suggest he is better than Johnny Evans, isn't right, imo.

If you take the blue tinted glasses off, Jagielka is just the normal good defender, nothing exceptional, like Shawcross, etc.

Phi Neville contributed even more at Man U is that mean he is or was superior to player say, Gana?

Jagielka played in an Everton team under Moyes. Evans was an Acedemy player at Man U under Sir Alex. If you took trophies to judge or make a point whether a player is superior to another then do you believe the RS members won the CL in 2005 were better than our players? Finnan is/was better than Coleman? Or Alcaraz is superior to Jags because he won a FA Cup. Like I have said Jags has been a first teamer at Everton for over a decade now and is captain of this great football club. He also got the highest England caps as an Everton player.

I don't share the same opinion with you. As a defender Jagielka, in particular in his prime is way better player than Evans who had no place for United and moved to the mighty West Brom in his prime. So no I don't agree with you at all especially you say Jagielka is the same level as Shawcross. Evans is nothing exceptional like Shawcross.

Evans is 29, Jagielka is 35. You can't compare it this way. Pretty sure Arsenal made a bid for Jags when Moyes was here.

Guardiola signed Stones. Proved anything to you he is a good defender?

After leaving Man Utd, was Phil Neville ever subjected to big bids from the current favourites for the league title?

Cups don't define players, but leagues do. Sir Alex Ferguson put his faith in Evans, particularly in his last season when they won the league.

United fans were horrified at the thought of Jagielka coming to their club.

He looked so out of his depth at England, it was embarrassing at times.

As I have said, he is a good defender, but nothing more. Fans of other clubs will say the same about their defenders.

I didn't make the initial comparison.

My comment that he isn't good enough now to be playing for us now and none of the top 6 would want him is standalone.

Somebody else brought up Johnny Evans to somehow prove a point that the top 6 would want him.

We were all raving about Stones, he can still be a good defender.

Guardiola can have his pick of the majority of players. He is choosing to go for Johbny Evans.

There can be other players that are better than Everton players, y'know?

If they were all so good, why have we been so unsuccessful?

But it does support the argument that he is in every way a cut above Ryan Shawcross, who you brought into the argument.

Evans is a good player, I'd say he was at a similar level to Jagielka personally. The fact he won a couple of trophies at United is completely irrelevant though. Matt Jackson and John Ebbrell won cups with us, but they're not better players than Coleman and Arteta who didn't.

He was an academy player there. He was a sub there. To say Evans is superior to Jagielka is ridiculous for me just because Evans had a free ride at a Champion team as a substitute. Whether a bid from Sky6 is irrelevant. Stones was bought by Citch who do you make of him?

Alright mate you say now, sure I am not denying that he is 35 and past his prime.

I did not wave above Stones. I never rate him cos he can't defend. And Citch went for certain players because they think they are ok and the HG rules. They got Stones and Rodwell off us.

Of course there can be other players that are better than Everton player but not Evans, for me.

It's all go round and round and you go back to the trophy issue. Is Finnan better than Coleman? Is Neville better than Gerrard?

They could have shipped him out earlier and not bothered playing him?

I believe Stones suffered a career setback by having Martinez as manager. Time will tell how good he can be. He is 22 years old.

We have already seen the best of Jagielka, and it was never the levels some in here are making out.

before he did his knee and had pace Jagielka was one of the best in the league, when he was alongside Lescott that season,

hes long past them levels, but he was that good for a period
