The squad is a joke.

I think the decision to take 4 full backs is crazy. You've got clyne and walker at right back, rose and bertrand left back, but only 3 central defenders. You could easily leave clyne behind and if walker is injured or off form, Milner or Stones/Smalling could slot in.

I guess he's thinking Dier can play centre back if need be but that's a big ask at that level.

Jags is the best English centre back there is.

Disappointed for him that he's not in the squad, without a doubt should be in there.

From a selfish point of view I'm glad he'll get a whole pre season off, after an injury riddled second half of the season and with him turning 34 in August the break should do him wonders.

This. Crazy decision. I would not have put Roy Hodgson down as someone selecting based on reputation, but he clearly has. Jags was capt for a qualifying game as well... only San Marion, but still, he's taking a big risk choosing Stones as one of only 3 specialist centre-backs above Jags. Suppose it might be useful in adding a few extra £££ to Stones' value you!
Until he messes up in a crucial game and goes from media darling to media punchbag. Such a risk playing him at this stage as he is woefully out of form. Maybe with a little bit of a rest and being away from Martinez he'll find his head again and hit the levels we all hope he will.

Still would have had Jags though.

Was always gonna be a joke but I'm not bothered at all that him and Bainesy aren't going. They'll be fully fit and get an extended rest plus a full pre-season. Fine by me.

Two key players to be present when the new manager comes in as well.

Chin up, Jags! I feel so sorry for you, but there are some kids who need their captain fit at Everton FC. Roll on next season.

Exactly. Baines arguably has been poor so his lack of selection isn't unsurprising, but Jags selection is pretty unjust in my humble opinion.

Anyway while I'm sure they're disappointed, it will give them both him an opportunity to get some rest and recuperation before next season.

We need a strong start next season so it may just turn out to be a God-send that they've both been left behind.

The London media selected the squad. They determined many months ago that Jags and Baines would not be selected.

I can imagine their disappointment, but from a purely selfish Everton point of view I am delighted.

Both should now retire from international football and concentrate on extending their club careers.

The lack of playing time and our league form cause Jags and Bainesy' places in the England squad.

How can Stones is in instead of Jags?

I think it was a toss up between Jags and Cahill, despite Cahill's ropey positioning on crosses, he does seem to score a few from corners.

On the whole though, a selection processes that sees Milner and Sterling in stinks to high heaven anyway, garbage the pair of them.

I honestly wouldn't have an Everton defender anywhere near the England team!

But I reckon Stones can really shine this summer.

True really.

Jags was always likely to miss out I think and Baines just hasn't played well enough. Then again I do think RM has a lot to answer for but from a selfish point of view I'm extremely glad neither are going. It's better for us.

Stones could shine, if played as a right-sided centre back with the more experienced Smalling next to him at left centre-back.

However, Woy been Woy, he'll play Cahill or, like he did in the Holland friendly, shove Stones at left centre-back where he has never played in his career.

It is very odd. And the Manchester United players are occupied by a match tomorrow and the Cup Final on Saturday.

It's a squad of 26, so three players must be dropped. With just three centre backs, Stones looks likely to be in the final squad.

Who will be dropped? I'd say Wilshere, Lallana/Delph and Bertrand/Clyne.

lallana & clyne dropped?

Not on your nelly, mate. lol (When it should be :( )

To be honest, it's a blessing for him because even if he was England's best player he'd end up getting blamed as soon as we went out.
