2018/19 Phil Jagielka

Feel like the club doesn't handle this type of thing particularly well. Players like Baines and Jagielka deserve to have their futures sorted before the end of the season in my opinion, it's a bit of a sad end to the career of a real stalwart and club captain. I'm not saying make an enormous fuss and build statues before anyone starts, but if it's true that he's only just been told I feel like it's a bit shabby.

Did he get a testimonial with us?

Similar how Hibbert + Osman were treated.

This at least shows that sentiment is no longer ruling at Goodison. Kenwright would have just rolled on another extension. Brands and Silva wielding the axe.

I don't remember it if he did.

I agree with your other post (don't know how to quote more than one post yet sorry). It's definitely good that he hasn't got a new deal, and we shouldn't be ruled by sentiment. I just think it could have been handled a bit better than it initially appears to have been.

....fair point, but we don’t know what’s been going on. If there was a contract offer it might not have met Jagielka’s demands or he might’ve been waiting to see what offers came from elsewhere.
