Like most fans I was shocked at the length of contract given to capitan Nev, but i can see one major advantage to this. Nev is a utility player, OK master of none (perhaps right back).

What I hope this means is Moyes buying players who allegedly can play in more than one position, because, they normally turn out to be good in one, and crap in the other. Jags anyone?

With one long term utility player it means that at last we can start to buy players because they are strong in the position that we want them for rather than faffing them about like faddy.

And no, I am not trying to scrap the barrel of positiveness of this signing, he's a good captain, professional, but a limited player - but given that he's not an Evertonian, and thank goodness, he will never be a badge kisser he gives his all for the cause.

I think he was given a contract that long because I think he will go on to the coaching staff like Stubbsy did. Hasn't Gosling or someone already come out saying that Neville helps them in training?

I wouldn't even say he's a utility player, he can play right back and that's it really. In midfield he does nothing, just fills a place in the team.

Players like Osman and Arteta can play in more positions that Phil, I think it's just a tag to actually make him look more useful than he actually is.

Decent right back, nothing more.

Thats not scraping the bottom of the barrel, thats smashing the bottom of the barrel, he is awful player and awful captain who loves the sound of his own voice. And if were he makes sure he is the last player on pitch milking applause isn't badge kissing then i don't know what is

I find it incredibly hard to diss an Everton player. Neville to me is not "crap", frustrating yes at times. I think that fans over concentrate on him and his mistakes and don't do the same, or give the same leeway to others, such as Arteta and his freekicks before we discovered the source of his problems.

If you asked me directly would I pick him for the team, I'd say yes at right back because he does good there. He's actually had a good pre-season and until I get to pick the team for real (which will never happen), I'll cheer him on, but probably hold my heart every time he get's the ball, because his distribution has become such an issue, despite making him contributing to assist for a number of goals.

Which part of the ground do you sit? Cos 1st u say Manny is [Poor language removed] and now ur saying Neville is crap. Neville is very very limited, but hes not crap, hes just not a showy player, he does the basics and does them well, but anything else and yea he struggles. But hes a good pro and he talks, which is what you want from your captain.

When Weir was Captain i used to watch him, he never opened his mouth, it used to piss me off, at least Neville shouts and gees up the team.

Im not saying hes the greatest player ever, but hes good to have around the squad and crap he defo aint, look @ all his lovely England caps, im sure the England manager, David Moyes, Sir Alex all have better football knowledge than you or me, i doubt they rate him as crap.

But your entitled to your view, its just a very short sighted 1.

HalewoodBlue, this is not me having a go just merely a query. Why have the moderators given you a red card "describing you a closet red"? You seem like a true blue to me :o.

That is not the Moderators. That is from the negative rep he receives from people that read his posts. The moderators to not need to do this as his constant slagging of the same subjects in the same veins upset people. This is his opinions, he is entitled to them, many don't agree and let it be known. This is the freedom of the site.

Thats the problem he doesnt do the basics, in fact quite opposite he thinks he is ronaldinho trying to spread 50yd balls which end up in the stand. If he kept it simple he would be a lot better off

He doesn't.

He watches on TV.

:lol::P

Ssssssssssh White Noise

I think the reason why Jags was bought was to be a jack of all trades. He was the best player in the championship playing in the midfield for Sheff Utd. Then Warnock switched him to the central midfield in the prem and he was as good for them as he is for us. Plus he even played keeper when Paddy Kenny got hurt and preserved a 1-0 victory over Arsenal.

He just took a few months to settle in here. However now that he's comfortable I think he could be that guy.

Neville is at his best at right back. I'd like to see him stay there. Hopefully we wont have a run of injuries which forces him to play a different position every week.

I'd also like to see Jags get another try in midfield, now that he's more settled in the team. He was fairly ordinary there early on, but I think in our current situation, he might be worth a gamble...

you know what mate. you have a dam valid point there. I likes it. Good defender steps up to be a good defensive midfielder.
