Wigan have just signed a Mex whose average was 1 goal per 2 games and for 3.5 mill. So perhaps there are still some goodish deals out there.
But we have no money.
From what i can read, we couldnt agree a fee with his Club, ie Zenit. With him saying he had 1 foot at the club, i think personal terms had been agreed, hes out of contract next year, they cant have wanted that much for him..........
Zenit seem to be terrible at these things. Arshavin the biggest one over the summer. Was going to any top club but Zenit couldnt agree a fee for him that were always more than the clubs were willing to pay.
They're owned by Gazprom - with their annual net income of over $15b, they really aren't bothered about an extra few million they may lose in transfers.
Why sell if they don't have to?...
Zenit St Petersburg striker Pavel Pogrebnyak has admitted he was close to a move to Everton.
The Russia international, whose colleague Andrei Arshavin is the subject of a protracted transfer to Arsenal, was close to beating his pal to a move to England.
Pogrebnyak, who shone in last season's Uefa Cup, revealed that a possible switch to Goodison Park collapsed when the financial terms of the transfer could not be agreed.
Bolton Wanderers and Bayern Munich have also enquired about the highly-rated target man.
"I have a contract with Zenit that is valid for another year," he told Sport Express.
"I want to play at this club and win new titles with them. So all the talk about me moving anywhere I would ask to end.
"Negotiations on this matter [a new contract] are continuing.
"About Bolton, I heard most recently of them for the first time. But Everton's interest was quite serious. One could even say that I had one foot already there.
"But, as I said then, in the end they had to buy me but did not find the funds. Maybe the [global financial] crisis intervened, maybe something else, but the fact remains that the deal did not materialise. Bayern Munich also enquired to Zenit but, as far as I know, they replied that they will not sell me.
"I am a big fan of the English Premier League. My dream is to play there."
