My father went straight from school and served his apprenticeship with Mortons of Garston, building the Bullens Rd Stand (1925-26). It was basically cheap labour and as soon as the job was finished the apprentices were all laid off. He spent the rest of his working life on the docks (apart from a 6yr sabbatical 1939-45). He stood and sat on the stand he helped build till not long before he passed away in 1985.... after seeing us as champions one last time.
