Oh how could I not love Fred?
My first game watching Everton saw Fred score three for Blackburn as they beat us 4-1 at GP.
The next time I saw him he scored three on his debut as we beat Forest 6-1. This on my twelfth birthday.
Pickerings peas were the only veg I'd eat.
Alex Young no, Fred was my first hero in blue.

The complete no 9 - he wondered why the players named him Boomer Pickering - I read it was the noise of the ball off his foot when he had a shot - BOOM .....
When at Blackburn he really was a no 9 - but played at fullback as Derek Dougan had the CF position - when he got injured a star no 9 in Fred Pickering took the job on ..,

My late father stood there as every time we played Rovers he ran Labby all over the place - we have to sign him he stated......the Catt did .....
