The drop in attendances was remarkable - 48,000 for a 3rd round League Cup tie in 1978 to 17,000 in 1983.
Understandable. Without wanting to cause a nark, I wouldn't cross the road to watch a league cup tie, based purely on my inner feeling were destined never to win the thing.

The 48,000 was for the League Cup. Both Everton and Forest were flying so it was a big match. I think it was the economic situation (Thatcher's "managed decline") that caused attendances to drop by 1983

Went to that game. Second time they'd beaten us at home as they'd done us first game of the season on their way to lift the title. That was Latchford"s 30 goal season.
