Maybe my memory is playing tricks, but was his Shoot! column called On the Ball with Alan Ball. I know Brian Moore presented the ITV programme On the Ball. I used to wait eagerly for Shoot! each week to carefully cut out his column and put it on the wall. Wallpaper? Who needs wallpaper?

…my sister worked for Ogdens when she left school in the 1960s. They had a factory not far from where we lived in Everton & I can still recall the lovely warm smell of the raw tobacco from her overall.

Manys the time I walked up past Gregsons Well and the nearby billboard with the pipe on it, with smoke coming out of it.
