Seeing the ad for Ogden's Walnut Sliced has made me reach fro a pipe and enjoy the re-run of MOTD :). Looks like c 1962-3, 63-4??
63-64, they ripped us a new one that day with Douglas pulling the strings and Pickering getting a hat trick, all aided with a liberal helping of a very...shall we say...'robust' playing style.
iirc, we were 1-3 down before we could draw breath, ended 3-4, sounds close, but in racing terms were were about 5 lengths behind

…my sister worked for Ogdens when she left school in the 1960s. They had a factory not far from where we lived in Everton & I can still recall the lovely warm smell of the raw tobacco from her overall.

I loved their St Bruno, sadly no longer available here.

Mac Baren now make it and it is available in UK at around St£20 for 50g.

When I started nearly 40 years ago, we also had Handy Cut which was my Dad's favourite, made in Dublin.

Thankfully we still have Yachtsman, but prices here are extortionate. 50g will cost about €30 whereas in Belgium, Spain and Croatia for example only about €8,

Can't get Yachtsman outside of Ireland but Amphora Original Blend or Full Aroma are lovely and readily available on the continent.

I went out with a girl who worked there for a short period ..... her mum & dad had a sweet shop nearby....

1963. My first game nearly my last as we were well beaten. Fred scored a hat trick and destroyed us. A few months later we bought him and repaid us by scoring a hat trick on his debut.

For @Bluerover - wife bpought a load of old Goal magazines for me at the Car Boot -a rare photo of Tommy Jackson an inspired signing by the Catt -

A great servant who crossed the sectarian divide and was loved North and South as well as at Everton. He was player manager in Waterford for 4 or 5 years and is still revered by the Decies (pronounced the Daysha btw  )

From Munster Express (local Waterford paper)

Tommy Jackson, ex Manchester United, Everton and Nottingham Forest would be the player manager to achieve this elusive cup that eluded Waterford all through the glorious sixties and seventies, when the Waterford team won five League titles in seven seasons.
There were great celebrations when the cup was eventually brought over the Redmond Bridge.
