was never in the hate Sam Allardyce camp. He was in to do one job. Keep Everton safe. And he did. All conjecture now if we would have been safe without him. But the fact is we stayed in the PL with him.
For me it's all about results. And he did manage a few wins. Some of the football since with world class managers has been every bit as poor as what big Sam served up. Just an opinion folks.
He started well with 3 wins and draws against the RS and Chelsea and we were up to 9th and safe even before Christmas. The disappointing thing for me was that he could have really kicked on from there but didn't. He was given money to spend but found it impossible to change his negative tactics and only won another 6 games out of the final 19. It's a fair point that a couple of our subsequent managers have produced equally dull football.

totally agree . It's just that I thought that some of the criticism of him was way over the top. I never thought that he was great. And he wasnt.
But I also thought that he wasn't going to last that long either. He was as they say " a fire fighter".
Tbh. I didn't really expect that much from allardyce. Just a safe mid table position. I expected more from the next two managers. But it was not to be. Let's hope that the next one can deliver something to cheer about.

EVERTON V UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN CUP WINNERS CUP 1984 FIRST DAY COVER -

travelled down from Derry- Londonderry to see the first match. We fielded a strong first eleven. Our usual team. And got held to a 0-0 draw. Couldn't believe it. And ucd weren't lucky. They actually played ok.
What I still remember about that particular fixture. Is that I backed Everton to win 6-0 or 7-0. That's how confident I was. How wrong was i.
But we beat them over the two legs. Just. And the rest is history.

Even worse, I was sitting next to my brother in law who was a United supporter
I drew a few days earlier Norman Whiteside in a draw to score the first goal. Now considering I support Everton. And was locked on Everton to win. With a few side bets on Sharpe and Steven to score first. This drawing Whiteside was bitter sweet. The irony of it all.
First time that I would have rather not won anything.....

A man of many talents, Duncan McKenzie was able to launch a golf ball straight out of the stadium -

just like Iwobi 's passing. wish that someone would launch Iwobi outside the stadium.
Although sometimes I wish our defence could launch a ball outside the stadium. Anyhow.......very skilful footballer was Duncan McKenzie. Just wish we could have seen him for longer....

Here is my hero - Big joe -

one of mine also joey. But the trinity came first. Especially the great Alan Ball. But I loved all the team from that era. How could you not.
But a special mention from me for John Hurst and Sandy Brown. Two imo unsung heros. But as I have said........all that team were great.
Even K.Newton. Who replaced the great Ramon Wilson. Great team....
