The GV believed him, he's done no wrong as he was MOTM on that occasion - it was a stupid thing to do, but the sentence was far too severe in his opinion plus for such a little pay-off - four football top class players were judged harshly - compared with what goes on since nowadays -

I agree it was foolish as you point out Tony Kay would have been an asset for us plus maybe played in the World cup instead of Nobby Styles - Brian Labone often stated Bally would have loved Tony Kay in the side - but would we ever had signed Howard Kendall etc - I think we would have personally ...
