A sad day when this happened -

Agreed. I've always seen the replacement stand as an ugly aberration. Can't believe Moores let it progress when it had become obvious that the original cantilever stand couldn't be done. GP must be the only Directors Box in the country with obstructed views! Unbelievable too in the 50 years since its construction the opportunity was never taken to reconstruct the roofing at least, using modern, lighter building materials that would have allowed the central two roof supports to be removed. It was particularly embarassing at the time when, a couple of years later, Chelsea completed their triple decker Main Stand - complete with unobstructed views.

I got to that game very early, was in the front of the street end right where Bally slotted.
I was lucky enough to have a ticket to go to the game.
Lad I usually went to the match with wasn't as lucky so took his girlfriend to the Savoy in Birkenhead instead. The Family Way was showing and was classified X rated because of a glimpse of a tit.
He told me just when the going got a bit steamy the film flickered and a still image of the result showed we'd won appeared on the screen. Cue Blues and RS giving it to one another in the dark.

Loved that stand. Whilst I had a Gwladys St season ticket for years I took out a season ticket for the new main stand the first season it opened and had a seat right behind the Directors Box with great views. Sadly I had to give it up in the late 70s when I left Liverpool and could only get to a handful of games each season.
