What a performance that was stood n the Spoon Kop with thousands of blues fans .......the anfield for end chanting - Champions non stop. In the 2nd half ... A 2-0 win at a canter with the Holy Trinity in complete charge - though John Hurst was my MOTM......

We tend to assess players by their performances & participation in successful sides. Howard Kendall's form in the dire season 1972-73 exposes the folly of that view. He was magnificent, as the below editorial from The Evertonian reminded readers.

Kendall for us and Best (by then playing as a false No.9 or a No.10 ) for United, basically kept both their repective teams out of relegation trouble, as soon as Best quit, down they went.
