Bob Latchford scores his 18th of the season against Middlesbrough, 1977-78 in a 3-2 win for us - The Latch got 2 goals that game -
Absolute one off Westy!!!
17th October 1953 John Willie Parker scores one of his brace against Swansea during a 2-2 draw _ John Willie Parker from the Wirral had a great partnership with Dave Hickson in 1954 to get us promoted they scored a fair few goals that season - MY late father used to always state he was Johnny on the spot to score, but his kit was as clean after the game as it was before he started the game - where Dave Hickson was full of mud & blood -

Oh yes no doubts it he was well liked as my post stated a reel Johnny on the spot he & Dave scored loads playing together instrumental of fetching us up in the famous 1954 season - my late father travelled to Oldham when we clinched promotion they poured hot tar on the walls to stop blues fans getting in over them as it was a full house - the blues fans raided the newsagents to purchase the old A4 style long newspapers to stick to the tar to stop them getting covered when scampering over the walls….I got to know Dave Hickson quite well as in the 70s he managed a team I played for. He was a modest man, rarely talked about his playing days but he spoke glowingly of John Willie Parker. Dave said the England team was ‘picked by Committee’ otherwise he & JWP would have been capped.
Terrific goalscoring record JWP had.
- we won 4-0 to come 2nd - the great news was LFC replaced us in Division 2 as we went up back in the top flight where we have stayed ....Fingers crossed mate.
Smith*, St John, Hughes*, Callaghan Lawler, Byrne, HuntA young relative has asked for my assistance in identifying the side captured in this ancient photograph. My eyesight isn't up to it. Does anyone here recognise them?
