.....not sure that's Leeds, Joey. Also, Ball wouldn't miss from there?

Think that was Bally scoring v colchester in 6th round. We played in away kit at home for some reason

.....had a vague recollection it was a cup tie we were drawn to play away but played at home. Unusual to wear away colours at Goodison but that amber kit was great.

Yes it was Colchester United v Everton
Kendal scores the first two, Bally scores the 5th. Played in my favourite Everton kit ever.

Colchester had beaten Leeds at home( 3-2 I think) in the previous round. A major upset.
Does anyone actually know why we wore the away kit that day?

According to the Everton Heritage Society:

“Incidentally, it is believed that this amber and blue kit was also the last change strip worn by Everton in a competitive fixture at Goodison Park in their 5-0 thrashing of Colchester United in the 6th round of the FA Cup on 6 March 1971 – thanks to the competition rules about both teams having to change their strips if colours clashed."

Thanks mate. Interesting. Puzzling that I can only recall it happening for that match. Surely we must have been drawn against teams that wore blue on a few occasions at least.

The FA Cup rules stated away colours to be worn by both clubs unless a mutual agreement can be made. This was in force until 1989-90, so I can only assume Colchester United would not agree to Everton playing in blue.

Odd if that was the only occasion, I am struggling to think of any other games at Goodison when it happened.
