Tommy Lawton showing his aerial prowess - playing for England - he left us for marital reasons , and soon regretted it - his whole career nosedived, as did his family life, and his finances......
a centre forward very good in the air - who could shoot with both feet - the war years like most players messed their careers up -

The wartime years players get stick off some people even white feathered as inter league, and internationals matches were played , and they were only fitness instructors etc - but it was all to show things must go on for moral etc moderate crowds attended these matches...as often teams were mixed on where they were based in army camps -

The bottom picture shows Joe mercer with Tommy and manchester City & England international keeper Frank Swift who was a tremedous friend to Lawton and Mercer, and a right Joker , and a great Goalkeeper who sadly died in the Munich air crash as a journalist for the Daily Mirror -
