Have a look at that West Brom team that started yesterday, that team quality wise was no better than us, and then can you honestly say that you weren't disappointed that we didn't have a go instead of parking the bus.

Also, we're not talking of a team who were flying high, or who were on a great run, we're talking of a team who were very low on confidence after not winning a game in the last 17, and were sitting second bottom in the prem.

Take your point Dave, but we have not won any silverware at all....OK perhaps "prem survival" is the wrong phrase to use...lack of ambition to push us on may be more appropriate? I think you have mentioned this in the past and quite rightly so in your criticism of kenwright, elstone, moshiri etc. I myself was not a supporter of Allardyce but short term pragmatism won me over after the first 3 months of this season. We do need to push on and get back to winning ways but with this board still here I am nervous of any future managerial appointments they will make afer Sam goes. Trials of being an auld blue who remembers the 60s and 80s eh???

My concern would be a new manager not having time to assess the squad, bring in, ship out, do a meaningful pre-season etc. Also would it unsettle what could be returning to a settled squad?

In that respect we'd be no better or worse off than most other teams seeking new managers to improve. You cant have change without disruption unless you're passing onto a number two.

Get anew boss in June and we'll be fine.

Silva obviously wanted the job, for one. Other managers in jobs were also reluctant to cut and run mid-season.
