Noticeable Improvements

The last two seasons were awful for many reasons. So, I think improving on those and making people happier to go the game was pretty much a given when employing whats seems a pretty solid manager.

It's beyond this season that is the unknown. I'd still be inclined to think he will stabilise us but if we are to have success from what is supposedly a new era at the club it could be the next manager that really makes the most of it.

Nagging away is the feeling that we might be allowing a manager who is here for 18 months to 2 years (for whatever reason) to spend a lot of cash on a few players and leaving us exposed first team wise in many positions.

I don't know about leaving us exposed as that would apply only to this second half of the season and he will be judged on his whole time here not just that. my problem with his transfer activity is what he hasn't done. His actual signings made are decent enough apart from Bolasie IMO. Although if Stek was signed to be number 1 thats also pretty poor.

The only season this Koeman one is on track to surpass from RMs time here goal scoring wise is the 2014/15 season.

2013/14 61 goals
2014/15 48 goals
2015/16 59 goals

We currently have 34 goals, so it might edge past that 48 goal season.

We were a much more potent attacking unit then compared to now. There is no doubt about that. Koeman sets up timidly. He gets a lot of players back behind the ball and is, for that very reason, NEVER going to be a manager that will take the sort of bold decisions required to amass CL spot points totals in any season he's here.

As said before he's a steady Eddie. Just that.

All depends Dave, if the current form is a sign that the squad has finally got to grips with what the manager wants then the goals for catagory could be set to go up a fair bit - scored 13 in the last 6 in the league (coinciding with switching to 3 at the back), a good stretch of games against teams that we really should maintain that type of scoring rate against coming up - starting with an incredible poor at the back Bournemouth

As for being bold to get CL - errrrm mate, Chelsea are winning the league this season playing counter attack footy and being very defensive most weeks, Leicester won it last season doing exactly the same thing

I'd actually argue strongly that the manager is frustrated at times by the team going into a shell still out of habit (which dates back to Moyes time tbf) - something we do seem to be getting a little better at 'not' doing of late

From early on he said he wanted 3 keepers mate, to produce competition, think Stek was meant to be the number 2 fighting it out with joel, but for whatever reasons we didnt bring in the keeper he wanted during the summer - and honestly not a prayer of being able to do that in January

Yeah true, that's why I said If.

I'd get in Steve Ogrizovic in the summer and we will be fine.

It's called backing your manager and it's what good clubs that have vision and belief do.

The recent trend is encouraging in terms of getting amongst the goals...and not just relying on Lukaku either. But I dont see this as a manager who'd get to the business end of any game in the balance against our competitors for a top four spot and go for it. I see a manager who'd stick rather than twist. Now that gets you solid points totals at the end of the season, it doesn't by and large get you CL spot points totals.

A club like this with less resources has to be, yes, 'bold' in the way it approaches matches. We have to go for it. If it comes off then we get a boost and a big win and unexpected points to our season total; if it fails then we slip down the pecking order...but at least we went for it.

I know which approach I favour.

I think the main thing that RK has brought to Everton is the raised level of expectation.
I feel that he only wants to win and he only wants winners around him and in his team...hence, we see the rather brutal way he operates with his players. If, he doesn't consider them good enough they are out.

We will see what additions to the squad we make in the summer and we will see if we lose any of the players that we would want to keep. If , we can hang onto our players and strengthen in three or four areas I feel that next pre season we will be talked about in the group that will be fighting for a top four position.

I think that is what RK is bringing to the club.

Dave is right in one thing, we may not hang onto Koeman for as long as we would like because maybe a club like Barca may come calling.
But, isn't that the standard of manager we want as we progress, a manager coveted by the premier clubs in Europe.
It is up to Everton to provide the situation where it is difficult to tempt the manager away.

Noticeable improvements
Massive uplift in player fitness
players buying into the managers ethos instead of fighting it(last year)
pressure on the football my biggest bugbear from last year, we have it now, we had zero last year.
Midfeild engaging the oppo higher up the field enabling the defence to get up (due to the above).
excellent youth set up, not possibly an improvement on last year but bearing fruit this year.
Number 1 goalkeeper actually saving us points instead of losing us them.
Midfield 5 sent from the gods
watching the RS begining to self combust as the dockland ground slowly edges towards announcment day.
Last year the dream was dead this year all evertonians ( bar 1) are starting to belive that we may be at the begining of something great

To be honest Dave, I don't care how many goals we score as long as we win. A 1-0 win is fine by me anytime.
The first thing a club and manager has to breed is the winning mentality , when the mentality is right then the style of football can be tweaked.
I think this is where our previous manager failed, he would not accept that he operated in a results business. To him style was all important, but commendable as that is, in professional sport it's result's that count.

I think there would be more than one fan who isn't getting carried away by a half season which has been up and down. I'm optimistic but don't think this particular manager will do much more than OK. Hopefully I am wrong.

Sorry to interrupt the goading.
