I would rather not bother to me it suggests a return to hoof ball ,never seen or heard of him and like Kel at first glance thought it was a mobile phone:D

Well it isn't a phone and I doubt he's very mobile.:) Don't think it's the type of striker we should be looking for as a partner for Yakubu, but seeing as Moyes likes to play 4-5-1, he could very well be seen as the ultimate pinchhitter if we're behind and have to change system.

i'll bet his wage is like phone number as well.

a rs mate was on about "the lord of the manor of frodsham" last night, said his pace is blistering but if he has to take someone on then forget it, reckons if theres ever been a sprinter who's been pushed into football then he's the man. may as well go for drug cheat chambers in that case.

i'd buy him on loan.i'd rather prefer that we get a midfielder, but i suppose beggars can't be choosers. good tall striker to get those high crosses, can be a good utility player if the squad gets a bit thin with the euro games, and has the most difficult name to pronounce ever (zijijc?)

For the whole summer, I hoped we would be in contact with Valencia regarding one of their players. Was not Zigic I was thinking of though. Don't know him really, but should give us another option up front and has a decent enough goal record. Just hope we don't go back to the days of Duncan Ferguson.

Marca are supposedly reliable aswell, we'll see what happens.

I don't know much about him myself but I would take him.

sounds like a desperation signing to me.
but so was our attempt to sign tiago. glad we didnt get him either. big wages and pretty much a failure at last 2 clubs.

my plan now would be 1 top mid prob moutinho and 1 striker maybe love. pay the clubs what they want . it is getting fekin ridiculous now

Liverpool Echo - August 22

EVERTON are poised to open transfer talks with giant Serbian star Nikola Zigic today – as James Vaughan prepared to make his return to first team action.

David Moyes is desperate to bolster his paper thin squad but has so far failed to make any new additions even though he has pursued several leads.

Signing a striker has long been a priority – especially since Andrew Johnson was sold to Fulham – and Valencia’s Zigic, 27, who turned down a move to Stoke City earlier this summer, may fill the void.

The Spaniards are prepared to let the three-time Serbian Player of the Year leave for 9m euros – despite paying 15m euros when they signed him from Racing Santander last summer – but the Blues would prefer a loan move with a view to a permanent signing.

Zigic, a towering 6ft 8ins, is a traditional target-man capped 28 times by his country, scoring 12 times.

He made his name at Red Star Belgrade, scoring 71 goals in 110 games.

Though Moyes will not have any new faces in for tomorrow’s trip to West Brom, he will at least be able to add Vaughan to the squad.

Vaughan has recovered from the foot problem that ruled him out against Blackburn and is likely to take his place on the bench at the Hawthorns.

One man who will be crucial to victory tomorrow is Mikel Arteta. He was Everton’s star man against Blackburn, scoring one and setting upYakubu’s header, and hopes he can help inspire a better team performance.

“We started badly and, as a result, we struggled against Blackburn,” said Arteta. “We will get back to the basics and hopefully that will help. We never got the ball on the floor early on last week and that’s not the game we play.

“We’ve just got to do our best at the minute. If Nuno has got to play on the left wing or Bainesy has got to play somewhere different, they will do it. If I could play in two positions at the same time I would do it.

“The young lads have been terrific but the pressure is on us. That’s football. If everyone stays down, expecting something to happen it will be difficult for us. We have just got to forget about last week and concentrate on getting a win at West Brom.”

Meanwhile, Tiago has added to the summer of transfer frustration by turning downing a move to Everton.

The Blues had agreed a deal with Juventus to see the Portugal international and former Chelsea midfielder join on a 12-month loan.

Though his chances of playing regularly in Italy are limited, Tiago has opted to stay put.

"I will not be going to Everton," he said.

Zigic was excellent at Racing De Santander in combination with Pedro Munitis who is small, fast and skillful. Don't agree that it means a return to hoof ball necessarily. Jan Koller was a similar style and the Czech Republic didn't play bad footie when he was in the side. Zigic is better with his feet than a lot of smaller forwards and his heading ability really is first rate (far better than Crouch or Carew imo). If the 9 million Euros reported is correct would be good value. Some fans were screaming for us to spend that on a championship Striker a couple of seasons ago, just coz he's a blue.

I think he'd be a good option from the bench like Dunc was in 04/05, a different option so to speak. If Cahill and Yak aren't working or one is having an off day we could bring him on and hit it long and get it into the box.

I've heard he's decent with on the deck so maybe he could hold it up and lets the likes of Pienaar, Osman and Arteta get beyond him.

It's all about having different options really, creativity, pace, aeriable ability, hard workers etc the more we have in the squad the better.

Looking at this guy's history, I see quite an accomplished player. If he's off the boil at Valencia it could be due to all the hassles there at the moment. Perhaps he's another player that Moyes can revitalize. And let's face it, we could do with a bit of height at the moment.

[Imagines him and Crouch squaring up ]
