4 defenders, 2 holding midfielders(sometimes 3) and people are obsessing over the kid tracking runners & helping out defensively from an attacking midfield position. Is he good at it currently? Absolutely not. ..but yeah let's stick with Aaron Lennon, not scored in about 2 years and couldn't cross a road but he's proper boss at helping out his full back.

Every player needs to help out defensively imo. Not just allow players to leave them in the dirt.

He was out of sorts.

Thought he did an OK job until his legs went. He is not great defensively but then again neither is Bolasie, Davies, Schnides, Rooney, Siggy, Williams, Baines. When you have attacking minded players helping out the full backs it becomes difficult to get out because they are all back. The defensive midfielders should go and help or a CB should help out and a DM drop into there position. This is half the reason we become penned in and have no outlet. Yes drop back and help out but not every single time, we still should have enough cover for the full backs.

Lookman is useless when required to help the full back out but as against the Cypriot team he basically hugged the line and then we seen what he can do. Same as Vlasic in the same game. That's what we need and want them to do and not get bogged down defending too deep.

And how exactly did Vlasic contribute in any way today?

And yes.. I would have rather had Lennon in the lineup today. Seeing as the tactic was to soak up pressure. Having a winger run back like hes gonna help out then just leave his man time and time again was definitely detrimental to defending as a team

I like him but he didn't look great out there today, definite player there though. I thought the smart sub to make second half was to get this guy off for Sigurdsson, during that 15 mins in the second half after they scored when we looked dangerous we had a lot of action down the right hand side, would have been perfect for Gylfi with his delivery. Instead it was left to Vlasic and Holgate to get the crosses in and they don't have the quality delivery that Sigurdsson does.

I thought he did OK till his legs went.

But I don't really see any improvement over Lennon when we are attacking and Lennon can last a full game and helps defensively.

Once we get to safety hopefully both him and lookman will get more time but right now we need to play Lennon.

Clearly should be a central player...its blindingly obvious...but when the choice Is him developing and getting games on the right or Aaron 'I'm a defensive winger' Lennon then theres only one option. Hasn't played for ages...needs a run of games then move him into the centre end of or next season.

2 things, Lennon has played 2 more games than Vlasic this season (which surprised me to be honest) and missed most of last season with is personal issues. And Vlasic is an international player in his own right, cant use him being a kid as an excuse to not do the basics.

Personally I like both and think they both offer something to the team.

lollol;)

Needs to be playing more central. Wasted out wide. Will be a good player in the future

I agree. Think his best position will be in the 10 role or playing just off the striker.. which unfortunately doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon.

Thought he had a good first half, looked sharp but can tell he kept drifting inside. Going to have a good future, we have to hold onto him and play both he and Lookman more often.
