Nikica Jelavic

Jelavic peeled off for that pass and was in acres of space. Anichebe should have got his head up for a second and picked out the pass.

Jelavic also didn't completely lose his runner for the Reading goal yesterday - that was Anichebe.

Don't get me wrong, Vic has had good games lately but it's not picking on him to point out blatant mistakes when they happen.

And Jelavic isn't a passenger at all - completely incorrect.. He's still a constant threat and adding to the team play in a meaningful manner. Watch Pienaar's goal yesterday; he's looking off the shoulder, as soon as the shot is fired off he's running in for the rebound. All game long he was doing that as well as hitting the channels.

The problem with Jelavic right now is solely his end product in terms of finishing, nothing else.

given the type of player he is thats pretty much his only duty, he isnt the type of player to go out wide track back etc, its not his natural game, he is an old fashioned slotter
There was one time when fellaini put a ball through and jelavic didnt even make the run.

Spot on, he is still contributing to the team effort and he is not shirking. You see him wanting the ball all the time it just isn't happening for him at the moment in the box.

torres does all that look where that got him. thats just papering over the fact he cant score

If jelavic would of slotted this season we would have had a great shout of 4th

I wouldn't deny that but we can also compare him to Saha when he wasn't scoring and we get different slant on it.

All we can really do is judge him and his form on its own merits and for me he is doing enough work to see that he will be back in the goals at some point.

That's as silly as saying that if a defender doesn't keep a clean sheet he's played terribly, or if a midfielder doesn't get a direct assist then he's had a shocker.

Which is why i don't really buy the confidence thing as being as important as some people say. Plays a part yeah but i think the main reasons he's not scoring is we're not giving him that many out and out good chances, and he's just not good enough to score off his own back enough.

A lot of blind faith in Jelavic in some of these posts. Thought yesterday was as bad as I've seen him, it definitely is due to his confidence being shot to bits.

And honestly, even if Anichebe had cut that ball back yesterday I'd have backed him to miss.

He's not shirking any responsibility, it's more like he doesn't have confidence in his own ability to take a shot first time etc.

The whole "we don't give him enough chances" is just ridiculous. Put the ball on a plate for any footballer 6 yards out and they're probably going to score. What makes a player a brilliant goalscorer is consistently getting into those positions through movement and having the intelligence to know where the ball is going to drop. Jelavic is lacking in that atm.

Boom!

But he's very rarely getting the ball in a position where he can have a first time shot like he was when he was scoring.

Give him the ball on the edge of the area with defenders in front of him where he has to make the chance himself and he's shown nothing to suggest he'd score, and if he needs the ball to his feet in the box he isn't getting it.

How many chances did he have yesterday, how many times did we find him with a pass or cross where he could take a shot? Had a header but thats all i can remember. If we gave him decent chances he's no doubt be scoring more than he is, and as a striker who appears to need to be given good chances its no surprise he's not scoring.

Doesn't have the intelligence or the athleticism for the prem, not now everybody knows what he's about.
He plays an outdated game.
