NFL 2022 Season

Lifelong Chiefs fan here. Next to Mahomes, Kelce is the single most important player. Kelce is irreplaceable. Period. It doesn't mean the Chiefs would become a bad offense, but Kelce's ability to get open even when double-teamed, and his inexplicable ability to always be open in the Red zone just isn't replaceable.
Agree 100%. There's an argument that Kelce is the best TE in the league, and I'd say it's a strong argument indeed. He'd likely walk on to any other offense in the NFL.

I think there is a good chance the reason the Packers didn't go get Rodgers a receiver, is that they think Rodgers is going to retire.

Easy to say with hindsight but if they weren't going to get some receivers, then the move was to trade Rodgers. Its actually embarrassing expecting him to win games with the worst options in the league. And what makes things worse is that they used 2 first rounds picks on the defence, have 5 other first round picks on D, gave out 2 big free agent contracts, and the D still stinks

Yep they are always in the mix for everyone...

But the fact is that they never once went out and got Rodgers a weapon. And the only time they went out and drafted offence in round 1, was when they tried to replace him. I'm not surprised he wanted to leave!

Makes the decision to pay him big money instead of cashing in for massive haul all the stranger

I know it's early doors but what is happening in Seattle is reminiscent of what happened when we drafted Richard Sherman.

Obviously a massive difference is that we are likely seeing the NFL's Most Improved Player at QB vs a rookie who nearly won ROY.

Pete Carroll might be a dinosaur, but he can coach up DB's like no other. The LOB was a 5th rounder (Sherm), a 6th rounder (Maxwell), a 5th rounder (Bam Bam Kam), and a 1st rounder (Earl Thomas).

So far this season we have gotten major contributions from 6 or 7 rookies. Sherm's more athletic doppelganger being one of them.

Crazy to see this team in 1st place in the NFC West when I was right there with every NFL pundit thinking we would the worst or at best one of the worst teams in the league.

Geno Smith seems to be a real deal QB. Has to be up there at this point one of the greatest redemption stories.

In your opinion
Lets see what happens eh? You shouldn't really cripple an already struggling team, no matter what. It's more the fact of what they got in return (ridiculously low pics) as to why I think it was so bad - for what they got for Smith and Quinn, and getting Claypool would be the equivalent of Man City selling Haarland for about 20million and paying someone 25 million for Oumar Niasse to replace him.

That we could find other ways to be productive. But we couldn't as easily adjust without Kelce. You couldn't subtract Hill AND Kelce at this point and hope to have a top 5 offense even with Mahomes.
Not sure I agree. One way I can explain Mahomes unreal ability to turn water into wine comes from comparing his college background to Lawrence and Burrow. Those 2 had all the weapons imaginable in college - Burrow still has in the NFL obviously. However we saw what happened when Chase was removed from the equation the other night. And Lawrence looks totally lost without the Clemson superstars around him.

Mahomes on the other hand had absolute trash to work with at Texas Tech and so was forced from very early on in his career to adapt to get results. And he still looked like one of the best qbs in the nation. We can see that ability to work with what he has this season. And adapting is something Lawrence (and probably Burrow if he lacked quality targets) have struggled with.

Sometimes I wonder if you even know what an offensive lineman is.

Burrow's numbers aren't far off that of Mahomes and Allen. But Mahomes and Allen have functioning run games at their disposal to keep opponents honest, and functioning protection to give them time to read the defense and work through their progressions. They've been sacked 11 and 12 times respectively this season, whereas Burrow has very poor protection and has been sacked 29 times.

Mahomes is a really good QB, definitely in the top six in the NFL if you look at his stats. But sitting comfortably in a clean pocket throwing a stream of dump-off passes to Kelce to turn into big plays based on the TE's uncanny YAC is not "turning water into wine". As we saw last year, he isn't great at reading defenses and as his stats suggest this year, he doesn't work through progressions all that much - he heavily targets Kelce. You yourself described Reid as having installed a short- to medium-range passing attack. Plus his divisional games are cupcake. How would he fare in the NFC East?

Burrow got to the Superbowl last year behind the WORST o-line in the league, winning the AFC North division on the way. You can keep riding your Mahomes obsession all you want, but don't pretend he's working miracles while denigrating a QB who actually DID work a miracle... and beat Mahomes repeatedly whilst doing so.

Mahomes is in fact the top 1 in NFL history if you look at the stats.

Lol top 6 of the current group. The Chiefs OL is average - Mahomes generally makes his own time via movement. Also never said it was a short to medium attack - it’s a genuine medium range attack - he wouldn’t be neck and neck with Allen in YPP if it was.

The 2 best qbs in the league are Mahomes and Allen - both went to schools without talent and have learnt to make viable targets of average players.

The only outlier is Reid who I accept is a genius. But even he didn’t have this kind of success with Alex Smith, so it’s likely 65/35 in favour of Mahomes in terms of being responsible for 4 AFCCG in a row. And 2 super bowl appearances.
