None of the players shoehorned into the wing position s have played well though so it's a player who's not comfortable there not playing well or a winger in there who has a better chance of finding form

Plenty on here said judge our defence after at least 2 seasons with Martinez as they were not convinced he had that side of the game in his locker, our back line is a shambles and it would seem any work done by moyes had well and truly been undone
Or age has caught up with Jags, Distin, Howard and Barry far quicker than he expected.

Plus Coleman hasn't looked the same since his injury and while Baines has been fine we're used to him being excellent.

He needs time to rebuild and I don't know what he was thinking giving such long contracts to senior players which almost looks like a sign of weakness but he deserves our support.

Just finished watching the game, was driving back from Scotland today after spending Xmas up there! Got off to a good start but just like at Spurs, complete capitulation! Far too negative, allowing Newcastle to dictate the play. Players look shot for confidence, system looked disjointed, individual errors costing goals and more dodgy refereeing, Cisse should have been off! Barry was pathetic, he needs dropped! At least Martinez made changes quickly this time but only mirallas made an impact. Barkley was poor and Lukaku barely touched the ball. Kone did well, I'd give him a run in the team. Seamus looked more like himself today as well. Robles made a couple of decent saves but looked shaky as usual, especially on crosses!

I think we'll see a few more changes for the hull game! Team needs confidence, and quick!

It's not form that is McGeady's fault. That's just him. I said in preseason he's too wasteful, he's been like that all his career. The problem with how we play is that if someone gives the ball away unexpected we're left with both our fullbacks pushed on and there's no cover. Barry can only predict the predictable. At least if we have some legs in midfield we have players that can get back.

Can't be Martinez's fault that Distin can't win a header or Coleman can't close a cross down or a bad touch from Barkley, these are individual errors. Alright he picks the team but he doesn't go out and tell them to play like [Poor language removed] idiots. No, he's not banned from criticism because he is, because this is his team and he has to turn them around, somehow.

I'm only young but I've seen us play worse, a lot worse. Alright the past few records have been horrendous but not the point where they're going to define our season. We're not getting relegated at the minute, there's still plenty of time to turn this around starting with Hull.

One point I will make though in criticism of them, only 2/3 of the 11 looked arsed together and that did my head in, it looked as if it was a game in May and it didn't decide where we finished and people had checked out and we're ready for a holiday or break. We need the fight back, bit of bottle from those not arsed at the minute. That's how we'll turn this around, not [Poor language removed] turning on each other and calling each other kopites and that, that doesn't help anyone.
Just got home from the game so I have not read the whole thread just the last few pages. There is a lot of truth in this post I think. Several key players who won us points galore lady year are shadows of last season's excellence. We are leaking such soft goals it is amazing. No pressure on the man in possession, simple crosses that are not cut out or blocked, no urgency to regain possession when it is lost. I have no idea whether it is a tactic or players just not giving their all but we lower our work rate when the oppo has the ball instead of increasing it in Order to get it back. Not into conspiracies but that is not a happy camp. Footy is easy when player on ball has options. We are NOT. playing for each other at all. Pointing to pass to someone else, half hearted breaks, passes for someone else to take responsibility for the attack, killer pass or shot.players staying too close to oppo to prevent pass when we had chance to attack. Very worrying attitude in the face of setbacks. I honestly thought Newcastle were a worse side than Stoke, they gave us a goal start and still won quite easily!!!! I was heartened with the play overall in the first half but we are making little effort to really get at the oppo when we are on top and then when they have a turn in possession we concede such soft goals. Very bad combination.

Totally agree with your assessment.

I think there's a keeper in Joel. He's a big lad with good athletism and a good shot stopper. The reaction save he made today was world class. I've only seen Howard make one of those all season and that was in Europe.

With a bit of coaching perhaps he can learn and improve the weaknesses of his game a bit like DeGea. I don't think we've anything to loose.

Just wanna say one small thing. I feel like a fool because I protected McGeady for the whole of the first half and he was made a criminal I repeat criminal mistake to lead to the by no doubt the pivotal moment of the match, their 2nd goal which ultimately changed the game.
Furthermore, Barry is finished. Why on earth Bob left him on in the 2nd is beyond me.

That performance & team reminded me of when you play football manager and you are on a run of defeats and play a player who's rotted in the ressies for two years hoping he will bang a hatrick, along with a few youths thrown in for the hope of success.

Unlucky Berto

aids has been less than average for a very long time, a few misguided balls don't make him any worse, he's not even sub worthy, he offers nothing from the bench or as a starter.

Mate, I'm sorry but you talk absolute tosh. The other week 4th was on and now your thinking Joel is a keeper. He is a clown.

I disagree. He is sub-worthy but he needs a real telling off from the coaching staff for making an inexcusable error.

I was trying to be positive plus you think Howard is less of a clown than a man who has only made a handful of starts and is still very young.

Fair enough.

The only way we would have got something out of that game is if Cisse had of been sent off. Newcastle where far superior to us in every department.
